Under the supervision of the EVP, Programs & External Affairs, the Regional Programs Director is responsible for leading the Maryland Food Bank’s regional anti-hunger programs and solutions. Network-related programs, Youth Programs, and Government Programs for a specific regional designation in Maryland. Incumbent will also assist with or lead special projects relating to the MFB strategic plan including network consolidation, gap analysis, tracking of adequate service and Feeding America and grant-related required reporting. This position is responsible for managing relationships with MFB Partner agencies and community organizations for collection and distribution of food.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Community Outreach: Attend meetings to speak as the face of the MFB, such as Network Partner Area Councils (NPACs), regional councils and other civic meetings like Rotary, Kiwanis, etc. Work closely with External Affairs to promote the MFB mission and brand. Promote an expanding set of MFB programs, products and services. Assisting in the coordination of programs in their assigned service area. In collaboration with External Affairs, be alert to public relations/promotional activities related to raising general community awareness of hunger issues in assigned region. Represents the Maryland Food Bank in coordination with External Affairs in their assigned service area.
  • Programmatic: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that there is sufficient agency capacity to meet food distribution goals, identify gaps and recommend new programs and distribution opportunities to increase food distribution to underserved areas in that region. Incumbent will also work to understand the root causes of hunger and potential pathways out of hunger for that region. Lead efforts to conceive, implement and manage network relations, volunteer recruitment and programs, MFB programs and donor connectivity. Provide the EVP, Programs & External Affairs and other internal stakeholders with regular communications pertaining the needs and issues of the member agencies and communities in their assigned service area. Manage on-going communication with all member agencies through visits, email and telephone calls. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the food bank’s inventory and operations to promote increased food distribution and participation in MFB anti-hunger and awareness activities. Work collaboratively with the Compliance Best Practices team to ensure that required monitoring and other operating guidelines, regulations and rules are followed and documented as per the food bank and Feeding America or other governing body requirements.
  • Oversight: Coordinate and/or lead all activities of MFB’s main programs (SNAP, Network Relations, Youth programs, DSS (where applicable), Pantry on the Go and HEART Markets) to achieve cohesive, optimal results toward ending hunger. Establish goals and monitor workflow and progress. Ensure reporting and documentation are produced accurately and on time. Facilitate and integrate other departments’ regional activities and needs (e.g. Finance, Marketing, and Philanthropy). Support and/or oversee timely evaluation of prospective and existing MFB agencies according to Feeding America guidelines. Oversee the monitoring of all agencies and ensure completion in a timely and effective manner, ensuring compliance with the MFB and Feeding America guidelines. Report organizational data to the EVP, Programs & External Affairs and external sources as appropriate.
  • Relationship Building: Serve as representative in community meetings, forums, and coalitions that support MFB’s mission. Work to develop and expand regional networks throughout the state. Expand current provider network by recruiting new providers throughout the state. Attend outside training meetings to develop and encourage resource building and sharing in individual communities. Develop cooperative partnerships with other local organizations to better serve the region and its needs. Inform member agencies of available resources and determine appropriate distribution to ensure efficient use of resources. Monitor the use of those resources by member agencies and conducts follow up when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has direct supervisory responsibilities, and will provide indirect leadership of all MFB activity within the designated region.

Work Environment

  • The employee will carry out some of the job duties from a professional office environment with little fluctuation in temperatures and low noise but may carry out some of the job duties at client sites. For these offsite duties, the employee travels by automobile and will be exposed to changing weather and noise conditions. Occasional offsite duties will require employee to drive throughout Maryland counties for meetings and/or visits to various sites.

Travel

  • Significant local travel of 3-4 days per week is expected to successfully perform this role.
Educational Background: 
Four-year degree in a related area or equivalent combination of education and experience strongly preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a customer-service management related role, plus three (3) years leadership experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven success in leading the development and implementation of process improvements.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Proven success in managing and motivating others.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Navision is a plus.
  • ServSafe Manager certificate required upon hire or to be obtained within one year of hire.
