To coordinate the implementation of Child Friendly Spaces, implementation of child protection and education project activities including training, campaigns, advocacy, awareness rising, community mobilization/community engagement.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Child friendly space coordination

  • Facilitate access to the child friendly spaces for all.
  • Participate in the recruitment of the animators that will be facilitating activities with children in the CFS.
  • Ensure that minimum standards of the child friendly spaces are considered.
  • Support in conducting structured group activities. Support the animators in the implementation of the daily or weekly activities and conduct various field visits to the different areas of operations to monitor and supervise the progress of the work periodically.
  • Identify key protection threats affecting the child friendly spaces.

Strengthened referral system for protection cases among service providers and community actors

  • Registration of children and identification the most vulnerable for inclusion in protection surveillance & referrals.
  • Linking cases of identified children and youth with special needs in each club to established protection working group reporting and referral mechanism.

Provide case management, psychosocial support, and interim care for gender-based violence survivors and vulnerable children.

  • Provide psychosocial support, treatment and counseling for children with special needs;
  • Support and refer children with need for psychosocial treatment, mental illness and other special needs.
  • Support sensitization and awareness of rights for children with physical disability and mental illnesses.

Facilitate men, women, boys and girls, community members and duty bearers to actively protect women and children from protection risks

  • Mobilize community members to understand and participate in child and youth clubs through community meetings
  • Children and youth club management
  • Ensure Monthly clubs activities in schools
  • Assist the Coordinator in campaign and advocacy work on child health rights issues, including FGM
Educational Background: 
Diploma in Social Work & Community Development.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two year’s work experience with an organization
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to speak English and translate to Somali for community beneficiaries
  • Willingness to learn and be part of a winning team.
  • Experience: Minimum of one years’ work experience in community based programming, local government or work with NGOs or humanitarian agencies,
  • Other: Proficiency in English, and Somali local language.
  • Computer literacy, including knowledge of MS Word

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with 80% domestic travel to the Child Friendly Spaces within Baidoa
