POSITION PURPOSE

The Trails Across Texas (TAT) Field Coordinator is responsible for the development, leadership, and training of the American YouthWorks' Texas Conservation Corps program crew members and participants. The Field Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring a successful completion of AmeriCorps, and project partner goals and objectives, especially as it relates to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department trail project.

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of the Conservation Programs Coordinator will perform the following functions:

  1. Train AmeriCorps members to perform service activities
    1. Help design and implement Crew leader and Crew Member orientations
    2. Facilitate work-related training as needed and in collaboration with TPWD
    3. Maintain progress on member individual development plans
  2. Supervise AmeriCorps members service activities
    1. Ensure program safety standards including daily member personal protection equipment
    2. Conduct mid-term and end-of-term performance evaluations of AmeriCorps members
    3. Ensure project timelines are being met by members
    4. Transport AmeriCorps members when needed
    5. Cultivate a positive member experience through team-building and leadership development
    6. Support positive mental and emotional health of members
    7. Ensure proper hours reporting by members; review and sign member timesheets
  3. Manage projects according to partner expectations and AYW standards
    1. Communicate in a timely and professional manner with project partners to maintain project quality, timelines, and goals
    2. Conduct frequent site visits to ensure successful project outcomes
    3. Purchase supplies need for project work
    4. Complete purchase documentation and submit receipts regularly
    5. Input project data into shared electronic files and databases weekly
  4. Maintain up-to-date trail, chainsaw, and disaster expertise
    1. Seek out relevant continuing education opportunities
    2. Obtain Texas herbicide applicators license within 6 months of hire date.
  5. Participate in shared field staff team duties
    1. Assist in facility clean-up, chainsaw shop, tools, gear and program vehicles management
    2. Participate in interviewing and selecting potential AmeriCorps members in collaboration with the Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator
    3. Assist and support disaster deployments on the ground and as needed in coordination with the Disaster Program Manager
    4. Lead activities and ensure the safety of volunteers during corps-wide days of service
    5. Participate in grant reporting by having project data up-to-date monthly and contributing to grant narratives
    6. Contribute to monthly program report in collaboration with Program Coordinator
    7. Attend weekly staff meetings and other team meetings as required
  6. Other duties as assigned;
Educational Background: 
Preferred: EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: CPR / First Aid / WFR Certification; Herbicide Applicator; Wildland Fire Training; ICS Training; S212 or equivalent training
Minimum: EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university;
Skills/Experience: 

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years or more teaching experience; Five (5) or more years experience working with youth and diverse populations;

KNOWLEDGE: Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word; Excel; Access; Google Docs and Sheets; Trail building and habitat restoration experience; Mechanical and basic tool knowledge, including the use of a chainsaw; CPR/Wilderness First Aid; Herbicide use; Team-based coordination and logistics;

SKILLS: Lead teams and develop leaders; Good problem solving and logistical skills; Flexibility under pressure; Mediation skills; Basic computer skills; Operate passenger van, truck with trailer and other heavy equipment; chainsaw operation; GPS/GIS; Carpentry, small engine maintenance; Project management; project partner relations; Operate in diverse community settings; Able to provide mentorship under stressful conditions;

ABILITIES: Attention to detail and accuracy; Well-organized; Cooperative, patient and willing to assist others, open and honest personality, Flexibility under pressure, Good decision maker; Able to build consensus;

Compensation/Benefits: 

 

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range $32,500.00 Salary/year
  • Fourteen personal days;
  • Five sick days;
  • Nineteen break days, taken throughout the spring, summer, and winter;
