The Network Development Officer (NDO) is a key member of the Feeding Texas leadership team, and manages all aspects of our corporate, government and foundation grants portfolio, including grant solicitation and management, prospect identification and cultivation, and solicitation of both general operating and project funds, with a focus on 1) stewardship of current contracts and grants; and 2) cultivation of new funding sources to support statewide network strategies, including non-traditional grants and partners.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with the Feeding Texas leadership team to develop a long-range fundraising plan to support the network’s strategic initiatives.
  • Work with the CEO to establish and meet annual fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with the Board Development Committee and development staff at member food banks on an annual development plan to identify funding and partnership opportunities that benefit the network.
  • Establish strong relationships and clear lines of communication with development staff at member food banks to foster transparency, protect local food banks resources, and prevent confusion among donors.
  • Secure new and renewed funding through competitive procurement opportunities and the direct solicitation of corporations and foundations.
  • Write letters of inquiry, grant proposals, reports and other correspondence as required to effectively solicit and steward grants.
  • Conduct research to identify new corporate, government and foundation prospects
  • Identify and develop non-traditional grants and partnerships such as service agreements with health insurance companies.
  • Develop and manage a calendar of deadlines for proposals, reports and other communications with current and prospective funders.
  • Develop and maintain systems for managing records and contacts.
  • Work with accounting staff to develop program budgets and reports.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge and understanding of the foundation community and grant making trends.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Seven to ten years of experience in nonprofit development, corporate and foundation relations, or a related field
  • Demonstrated track record securing financial and other resources for a philanthropic cause (measured through fundraising dollars raised, significant partnerships, etc.)
  • Committed to organizational mission of ending hunger
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the foundation community and grant making trends
  • Demonstrated capacity to build strategic partnerships
  • Experience with state and federal grantmaking and procurement processes
  • Familiarity with the health care landscape and health insurance trends
  • Strong people skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Persuasive storyteller
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multifaceted demands
