The Director of Development provides strategic leadership in financial development to advance the YMCA’s mission through additional contributed revenue with the direct focus on Annual Giving and Major Gifts. Assist the Development team, Board Engagement Committee, and CEO/COO in developing an actively engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors, and in positioning the YMCA as a “charity of choice” for the investment of donations within the local community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversees all aspects of the Annual Giving Campaign, including but not limited to: case development, establishing fundraising goals and tactical plans, generating organization charts and structure, developing campaign tools, overseeing all campaign communications (internal and external; printed and digital) and proper gift acknowledgement in partnership with the Development and Marketing teams.
  • Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects. Maintains ongoing active portfolio for each donor, employing fundraising best practices and high-level moves management.
  • Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development.
  • Establishes and monitors the budget as it relates to the Annual Giving Campaign for the YMCA.
  • Supervises the Database Manager in gift accounting, reporting, collections, scheduling, and other fundraising correspondence.
  • Supervises the Development Coordinator in overall administrative support of the Development team including meeting oversight, mailings, scheduling and event support.
  • Develops appropriate fundraising policies and procedures for the association in coordination with the Development and Finance teams.
  • Provides training in fundraising. Educates, motivates, and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
  • Oversees the development of communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.
  • Represents the association as required by the CEO and VP of Development.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five or more years of professional experience with a background in fundraising in the YMCA or another not-for-profit preferred.
  • Ability to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
  • Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
  • CFRE or equivalent preferred; YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Experience utilizing donor database (Raisers Edge Prefered)
