The Communications Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing communications and marketing strategies for Austin Habitat for Humanity.

Austin Habitat for Humanity (AHFH) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to ending the cycle of poverty housing in the Austin Region. AHFH believes that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live. AHFH was incorporated in 1985 and is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a global, non-profit housing corporation founded in 1976.

The Communications Manager will be in charge of media relations, and assist the VP of Development in fundraising and donor stewardship.The position will collaborate with the Director of Advocacy to implement affordable housing advocacy and Austin Habitat for Humanity’s Advocacy efforts in order to enhance the mission and vision established by the CEO and Board of Directors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and execute annual communications plan which includes donor relations, advocacy and digital strategies.
  • Ensure all external communications and collateral are on-brand as designated by Habitat for Humanity International’s branding guidelines.
  • Create and manage agency website
  • Collaborates with Development team to execute House Sponsors acknowledgement and stewardship
  • Promote the overall agency messaging and branding including logos
  • Act as public relations liaison, creating and managing relationships with print, digital and television media contacts.
  • Pitch news stories and position Austin Habitat staff and CEO as thought leaders on housing policy.
  • Produce scripts, editorials, run of shows and messaging platforms when necessary.
  • Execute community awareness and marketing strategies, including social campaigns, advertising placements, and event planning.
  • Work collaboratively with staff members to identify messaging needs and possible content for use in external communications.
  • Create and maintain organization's quarterly newsletter.
  • Work with appropriate staff members to create promotional collateral, communications with donors, volunteers, supporters and press.
  • Execute email marketing and continually test to produce higher open rates, click through rates, donations and engagement.
  • Oversee creative direction of external marketing collateral as created by the Graphic Designer
  • Examines ways of packaging and marketing these programs to philanthropic supporters.
  • Maintains knowledge about the external environment as it relates to housing and philanthropy.
  • Attend and participate in weekly planning meetings, All Staff meetings, and other team meetings, as required.
  • Develop an understanding of the development department’s programs and take a proactive role to support them.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support other departments when needed.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations related field, strongly preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years of experience in non-profit Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms required.
  • Working knowledge of non-profit organizations and program impact measurement.
  • Experience and/or interest in non-profits or affordable housing a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
