The Communications and Public Policy Associate is a newly created position that will primarily be responsible for providing external communication through managing all social media channels and will be working on public policy related initiatives focusing on abortion access, travel, and be a key player in FTC’s work during legislative session. The Communications and Public Policy Associate will work in tandem with the Executive Director and Development Manager to achieve Fund Texas Choice’s public policy initiatives.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Social Media 

  • Develop FTC social media campaigns and toolkits to connect with followers, donors, and other partners.

  • Brainstorm creative ideas for social media engagement and fundraising in partnership with the development team.

  • Manage and update FTC’s social media content calendar. 

  • Create graphics, videos, captions, and other content for all FTC social media platforms (i.e., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok). 

  • Schedule and post pre-approved content using a post-scheduler or other shared tool. 

  • Engage with social media public audiences and partner funds via comments, likes, reshares, DMs, retweets, etc. 

  • Support Development and Communications Manager, as needed, on other communications related projects. 

Public Policy and Advocacy 

  • Support organizational policy advocacy efforts by analyzing bills, drafting comments, preparing testimony, writing fact sheets, and talking points during the Texas legislative session.

  • Track legislation pertaining to reproductive health, rights and justice.

  • Analyze state legislation and conduct research in connection with policy issues and developments, including legislative hearings and administrative rulemakings.

  • Actively participate and assist in allied advocacy related coalitions.

  • Identify issues and monitor legislative, regulatory and other policy relevant litigation, and other policy changes; work with the Executive Director to oversee campaigns addressing these issues. 

  • Travel to/from Austin during the legislative session(s).

General Responsibilities 

  • Actively participate in required convenings, summits, retreats, and staff meetings, and participate in required virtual staff communications.

  • Protect the organization by keeping information confidential.

  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by FTC, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations as relevant to your role.

  • Perform duties required of all staff to support smooth internal operations such as submitting timely expense reports, reimbursement requests, and timesheets. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

 

Skills/Experience: 

The following qualifications are strongly preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in social media communications.

  • Background in policy work, with some experience working with legislation or bill analysis. 

  • Strong conversational and written Spanish bilingual proficiency.

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.

  • Self-motivated & confident - ability to work with remote supervision.

  • Creativity and indefatigable problem-solving skills.

  • Prior experience and high comfort level with online business and co-working tools (eg: Google Suite, Slack, etc.).

  • Knowledge of the nonprofit settings.

  • Professional maturity, credibility, patience, good judgment, honesty, integrity and trust. 

  • Commitment to professional development.

  • Creativity in exciting communities in virtual organizational storytelling and engagement experiences.

Compensation/Benefits: 

 Salary range: $45,000 - $60,000 based on experience

Additional Information: 

This job is remote in TX, but Austin area candidate is preferred! 

During the TX legislative session, the Communications and Public Policy Associate may be asked to work more than 32 hours per week; flex time, a flexible schedule, and accommodations will be available, due the rigorous nature of the legislative session.
