Old Colony Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit housing ministry that has a 29-year history of building and repairing simple, affordable housing in our local communities. Old Colony is preparing to begin construction of a home in Mansfield, MA, and the Construction Supervisor, in accordance with Habitat for Humanity policies and procedures, will be responsible for supervising the completion of this residential construction project in accordance with design, budget and schedule guidelines while utilizing a volunteer workforce. 

The Construction Supervisor will also manage subcontractors, team leaders, volunteers and partner family through all phases of construction, including project planning, material orders, budget tracking, volunteer coordination, on-site safety, and subcontractors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with the Building Committee and Executive Director to develop project plans, schedules, timelines and cost estimates for this construction project
  • Work off-site to order project material, solicit material donations, hire subcontractors, plan build days, schedule inspections, and manage invoices
  • Work on-site to manage the construction process, maintain all construction standards from start to finish, insure safety of all team leaders, volunteers and family members, and oversee subcontractors
  • Perform the role of host to volunteers ensuring they have an excellent experience
  • Provide technical and administrative supervision to team leaders, volunteers and partner family
  • Maintain a tight building schedule that adheres to the affiliate plan
  • Anticipate problems and issues typical of home building and act to insure schedule is met
  • Maintain good working relationships with town building inspectors and schedule all inspections in a timely manner
  • Work with Executive Director to develop strong volunteer work crew programs and to recruit new volunteers
  • Identify volunteer jobs/needs not currently filled and communicate needs to Executive Director
  • Attend all Building Committee meetings as necessary

Control costs and insure budget projections are met by:

  • Researching competitive pricing for materials and labor and seeking competitive bids
  • Suggesting advantageous building practices and material cost savings
  • Seeking in-kind donations of both materials and labor
  • Checking invoices and receipts against deliveries; submitting same to Executive Director for approval and timely payment
  • Working with HERs rater to submit applicable receipts
Skills/Experience: 
  • Valid Massachusetts construction supervisor’s license
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and dependable transportation
  • Must be familiar with all phases of new residential construction
  • Must have experience with all phases of local municipal permitting and inspection for all trades related to new residential construction
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manuals, building plans, and site plans w/ grades and elevations
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts building codes and regulatory requirements, including zoning and planning
  • Knowledge of green building practices and the LEED-H certification program
  • OSHA certified a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate a volunteer work crew
  • Physical ability to work on the job site
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance; up to 150 pounds with assistance; ability to sit or stand for at least 60 minutes with repeated bending, crouching and kneeling
  • Able to oversee on-site work, at least part-time, on Tuesday, Wed & Saturday
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including email
  • The selected candidate will be required to take the Habitat for Humanity Competent Person Safety training
  • Knowledge of green building practices and the LEED-H certification program
  • OSHA certified a plus
  • Strong communication skills
