The Veterans Build Director is responsible for implementation and administration of the Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build initiative.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manages the Veterans Build team, providing leadership and direction in alignment with Habitat for Humanity’s mission and purpose
- Develops long-term strategies on issues related to affordable housing for and with veterans and their families
- Develops strategic partnerships with veteran-focused agencies to address increased accessibility to affordable housing – through new homes, or repairs to existing homes – for veterans and their families
- Partners with local Habitat affiliates and State Support Organizations to provide resources, training, guidance and support in their work with veterans
- Identifies obstacles to veteran engagement and develops tools and resources to assist affiliates in overcoming these obstacles to veteran engagement
- Manages and oversees grant programs in coordination with HFHI donors, Habitat affiliates and State Support Organizations
- Provides subject matter expertise to Resource Development, Communications, and other HFHI departments undertaking veteran-focused activities
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree; relevant graduate studies and/or minimum 4 years work experience with veterans or military families;
Skills/Experience:
- Total Years of Related Experience: 8-10 years
- Knowledge of housing and veteran issues
- Strong research, writing, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Experience with program development and/or community relations
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and social media tools
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of audiences, including elected officials, representatives of outside organizations, consultants, and all levels of HFHI and HFH affiliate staff
PREFERRED:
- U.S Armed Forces veteran
- Familiarity with government and issues impacting veterans is preferred
