Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented professional for the role of a Building Science Specialist. The Building Science Specialist develops expert understanding on the performance of construction design, products and whole building systems. The work is multidisciplinary which includes fundamental knowledge in green/sustainable programs & resources, durability & resilient construction, design, and construction practice.
This role will equip Habitat Affiliates to drive durable, energy efficiency solutions through ongoing building science development, creation of training programs, and ongoing Affiliate communications. This position will also consult on the development of Affiliate-inspired solutions that accelerate energy efficiency in the built environment and will directly establish great building science-based best practices. This position will not be in a office location but will be a remote/home office opportunity.
- Lead the development and implementation of the Habitat Strong program and supply reporting as required by HFHI and the programs donors/grantors.
- Facilitate information sharing and communication among HFHI, State Support Organizations (SSO's) and Affiliates.
- Provide direct technical assistance to HFHI, SSO’s, and US Affiliates as a Building Science Subject Matter Expert.
- Develop relevant off the shelf resources that can be immediately adopted and used by US Affiliates.
- Advocate for incentives and rebates for Green/Sustainable Building and communicate those to US Affiliates.
- Coordinate with HFHI’s Learning & Organizational Development department to provide learning opportunities for US Affiliates on Building Science related topics.
- Monitor and enforce US Affiliate adherence to HFHI Construction Quality Standards.
- Consult with SSOs, Affiliates and HFHI’s Construction Technologies Department as well as Building Industry leaders, to identify and develop relationships with partner organizations that could support the work of HFHI, SSO’s and Affiliates.
- Must have worked in the Habitat for Humanity community or similar industry for minimum of 3 years.
- Must exhibit strength and appropriate demeanor for decision-making during crisis and conflict.
- Must have experience with training facilitation and presentation.
- Must have excellent presentation, writing and verbal communication skills.
- Must be computer literate.

- Should demonstrate capability to design and ability to deliver high quality projects on time, and within budget.
- Should demonstrate ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Conflict management and resolution.
- Customer service skills and experience.
- Degree in related field (i.e Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Science, Construction Management).
- Building Science Certification Examples: IBHS FORTIFIED Evaluator, HERS Rater, BPI Building Analyst, LEED Green Associate/AP, NGBS Green Verifier or similar.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with US affordable housing concerns.
Beneficial But Not Required:
