Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented professional for the role of Development Communications Senior Writer/Editor. The Senior Writer/Editor, Dev. Comm is responsible for managing fundraising communications projects, often across departments or divisions, adding ideas to improve approach and quality to best communicate Habitat's message to support fundraising efforts.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as Communications' liaison to Direct Marketing. Work with DM to find and create compelling stories that represent Habitat's brand.
  • Create, review and edit DM message content for accuracy and brand appropriateness.
  • Partner with DM staff to create donor-facing online and print fundraising materials and appeals, including reporting/interviewing, providing communication plans and content development for internal and external publications (including online appeals, direct marketing print appeals, manuals, newsletters, magazines, brochures), to meet required deadlines.
  • Prepare copy for Habitat clients for print and electronic publications including proposals, concept papers, PowerPoint presentations and other content as necessary, either by writing or editing, always maintaining the accuracy, consistency and integrity of the Habitat message.
  • Work collaboratively with many internal Habitat clients in Resource Development and the programs division as well as design, photo, Web, video and others within Communications.
  • Serve as a writer on high-profile projects and back up Associate Director as needed.
     
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 5 years of professional writing experience
  • Proficiency in grammar and AP style.
  • Experience in an environment that requires fast and accurate editing.
  • Previous experience creating online and print direct marketing content for a national nonprofit
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field.
  • Ability to work with subject matter experts on a wide variety of content for myriad audiences.
  • A passion for the goal of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in helping to craft and deliver organizational messaging and calls to action
  • Proven experience in collaboration of visual and verbal communications; strong on visual and verbal conceptualization
