Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is looking for a strong finance or investment banking professional to join the Habitat Mortgage Solutions team as the Sr. Financial Analyst - Lending.
Habitat Mortgage Solutions is a well-capitalized startup Community Development Financial Institution focused on providing capital and liquidity to Habitat for Humanity’s affiliate community in an effort to increase the number of affordable homeownership opportunities. This community consists of nearly 1,300 affiliates that, in 2017, created over 4,000 homeownership opportunities. To date, HFHI has provided over $200MM in structured credit financing to its affiliates. In response to decreasing affordability due to increased land, material and other costs, HFHI is building out the Habitat Mortgage Solutions institution in an effort to help fund affiliates through working and long term capital.
We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible individual who always considers the bigger picture and who will create the appropriate structures, processes and products to achieve maximum social gains, while maintaining a profitable organization.
- Develop new financial instruments that are innovative, socially responsible, fiscally responsible and attractive to the general capital market audience
- For example, we are currently evaluating the feasibility of a mortgage backed security for Habitat mortgages that could be sold on the general market
- Create and model structured financial products and integrate into a comprehensive operational plan
- Work to understand the unique needs of the affiliate universe and create products that are easily scaled and replicated across different criteria. Products will need to meet the needs of local affiliates in terms of rate, maturity, usage and social impact
- Work with capital providers to ensure compatibility and comfort with financial products
- Ensure that the suite of financial products and demand of products fits within the operational capacity and financial plan of the organization
- Manage Credit Risk and act as main credit officer

- Refine credit standards for underwriting to affiliates
- Analyze and recommend credit decisions to the loan committee
- Monitor lending portfolio

- Help advocate for best practices and be an available sounding board and resident expert

- Develop social impact reporting tools
- Collaborate with industry experts and capital providers to create meaningful and measureable social metrics from the HFHI Lending portfolio
- Develop, recommend, implement and maintain operational procedures, tools and technology to ensure growth can scale and service levels can be maintained at all levels of production
- Work on administrative tasks, such as:
- Coordinate internally and externally to process payments to contractors/vendors
- Primary point of contact for all investors and government related reporting
- Help create and fine tune presentation for both internal and external audiences
- 5+ years of related experience in finance or investment banking
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including ability to conduct financial, credit and balance sheet analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Solid organizational and time management skills
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to learn quickly and think about the bigger picture
