The Senior Director of Social Media will be responsible for leading the vision and execution of strategic social media initiatives, including developing and managing social marketing campaigns, influencer marketing campaigns, creating and supervising high-profile channel accounts, and integrating social media into the overall business strategy. A successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries, exert influence and will have a clear subject matter expertise in not only the vertical of social media but also digital as a whole. He/she will be a cultural change agent having demonstrated competencies in proactive and innovative positioning and reputation management.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders to identify opportunities and executions in the social space, contributing from inception to realization for both mission and revenue products and programs, including the branded channels for the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Coaches Vs. Cancer.
  • Lead a team of experts to efficiently and effectively deliver social strategy across a complex organization.
  • Lead the formulation of  multi-year social strategies for each of the branded social channels. Develop annual plans to drive brand relevance and revenue while achieving specific business goals..
  • Develop and implement a social customer engagement strategy, including social care and community management practices.  Lead a decentralized, matrixed team to support this work.
  • Create and deliver enterprise influencer marketing strategies including small and large campaigns. Lead the cultivation of digital influencer relationships and ACS Staff and Volunteer ambassadors.
  • Support the reputation and brand strategy as well as revenue goals.
  • Provide innovation recommendations and thought leadership across platforms
  • Assist in stewardship and education across the organization to help raise the level of awareness and understanding.
  • Lead the strategic approach to paid social media for the organization to ensure best-in-class social marketing approaches for brand campaigns.  Collaborate cross-functionally across marketing functions to support this work (media, creative, insights, brand).
  • Manage multiple agencies and software providers to drive results for the organization while managing costs. Drive multi-million dollar revenue streams via peer-to-peer fundraising in social channels.
  • Assist in sales cultivation, upselling, and relationship management for high-profile corporate and sports marketing accounts. Develop social/digital marketing strategies and campaigns for top Fortune 500 companies.
  • Lead social issues planning and implementation
  • Lead the social team, agencies, and cross-functionally, analytics SEMs to formulate and implement policies, procedures and measurement designed to develop a world-class social practice for ACS.
  • Work closely with content leaders to ensure the brand, image and reputation priorities are reflected in annual plans and consistently executed. Manage social media budget including hard and soft costs.
Educational Background: 
The right candidate will have a degree in communications, marketing or a related field;.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience in the development and implementation of social media planning and buying strategies and a strong familiarity with online marketing best practices; 10+ years of marketing experience including 5+ years leading a team across social media.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated verbal and written communications to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of project team
  • Possess a “customer service” attitude to meet customer expectations per service level agreements
  • Solid understanding of digital marketing best practices including digital media, user experience, mobile, social media, email and SEM/SEO
  • Solid understanding of digital fundraising strategies and platform
  • Experience and fluency with digital platforms such as CRM, eCommerce, workflow-based content management, and industry-standard digital analytics tools
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple assignments and deadlines, to prioritize assignments as necessary, and to work well under pressure
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Self-starter, with strong sense of ownership, assertive follow-through and orientation towards results
