This position will provide payroll expertise to payroll team and employees, ensuring that specialized transactions are processed accurately and with a high level of customer service. This role is responsible for several key functions: processing liens and garnishments; ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local taxing requirements; processing third party sick pay, SERP, and oversees the compilation of data for the IRS990.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Acts as the subject matter expert for complex payroll features; thoroughly understands multi-jurisdictional payrolls.
- Acts as key point of contact for federal, state and local agencies regarding taxes, unemployment, and other governmental issues.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable tax regulations at a federal, state and local level.
- Ensures payroll is processed in accordance with payroll tax laws, wage and hour regulations and ACS internal policies.
- Ensures international payrolls are processed in accordance with payroll tax laws, wage and hour regulations and ACS internal policies. Ensures all reporting related to those payrolls are submitted timely.
- Prepares and submits Multiple Worksite reports.
- Processes third party sick pay, bi-weekly benefits reconciliation and year-end benefits payments reconciliation.• Handles employee liens and garnishments.
- Key point of contact with ADP Wage and Garnishment Processing Services (WGPS) to resolve any issues.
- Handles lien and garnishment calls from employees, custodial parents, lawyers and agencies.
- Serves as liaison with Accounting & Financial Reporting relating to SERP; performs tax calculations and processes all transactions related to SERP.
- Works with payroll service representative to ensure unemployment correspondence is processed timely. Processes invoices for all reimbursable unemployment benefits.
- Works with payroll service representative to ensure tax agency notices are resolved timely.
- Works with talent services to ensure benefit deductions are properly deducted from employee checks.• Acts as liaison to all departments for auditing requests.
- Manages the compilation of data required for the IRS990.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and must be able to handle difficult clients.
- Assists with year-end payroll activities including balancing and distribution of annual reports andW2’s.
- Researches and resolves payroll-related issues, recoups overpayments and benefit deductions from employees on leave of absence
- Manages and maintains productive and successful relationships with payroll service representative to ensure optimum benefit from vendor product.
- Administers policies and procedures related to payroll and tax law changes
- Coordinates all employee tax-related forms, statements and notices as required by law.
- Partners with management, talent services and other team members in the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures related to payroll
- Provides support and guidance to the American Cancer Society Regions as needed and requested.
Educational Background:
Required: High school education or equivalent. Preferred: BS degree in business or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a multi-state payroll environment.
- Preferred: 3-5 years working on ADP Enterprise HR-Version 4 or higher and with ADPR. Proficient at processing multi-jurisdictional taxes, benefit accruals, garnishments and expatriates. Working knowledge of federal & state payroll laws.
- Preferred: CPP designation.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
- Ability to independently analyze and research issues and provide resolution.Self-directed, organized and able to meet strict deadlines.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
- Requires a high level of accuracy and dependability.Work is normally performed in a typical office work environment.No or very limited physical effort required.No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
