As an International Housing Programs Intern, you will support the implementation of the Global Urban Approach. The position will work directly with Habitat’s International Housing Programs Director and other staff in Habitat’s Design and Implementation Team. You will learn from participation on a wide array of projects related to Habitat’s international housing programs work and Global Urban Approach, including the upgrading of slums. You will focus on supporting continued research of urban trends, assisting with the monitoring and implementation of grants, and support knowledge management and the development of tools and resources for Habitat’s regional and country offices.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Continue to research urban trends and best practice to support the enhancement of the Global Urban Approach and design and implementation urban programs;
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of grants;
  • Support the urban leadership team meetings, coordination of the Community of Practice, and publishing of the bi-monthly departmental newsletter;
  • Support the development and alignment of area and national office urban strategies;
  • Work with AOs/NOs to develop urban case studies and organize documentation;
  • Supporting the development of program guidelines and assessments (urban toolkit initiative);
  • Support the development of position papers and policy positions on identified thematic and sub-thematic areas; 
  • Develop the urban indicators; 
  • Work with two countries (1 each semester) to develop their urban strategies; and 
  • Manage the SharePoint site – documenting case studies, sharing relevant documents, updating relevant urban documents etc.
Educational Background: 
Current undergraduate or graduate student
Skills/Experience: 
  • Understanding of international development and related policies
  • Ability to conduct research
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International, urban and/or housing experience
  • Proficiency in Spanish 
Compensation/Benefits: 

Pay: $15/hr. (Undergraduate Program) - $17/hr. (Graduate Program)
