Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria combined to create one of the nation’s largest housing disasters. Habitat for Humanity is committed to helping families in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico recover through the Habitat Hammers Back (HHB) recovery initiative. The HHB Team at Habitat for Humanity International is seeking the support of one intern.
Note: This internship is unpaid for the first 3 months and paid for the last 9 months. The intern will be assigned computer equipment and a workstation in its Atlanta Administrative HQ location. The expected duration of these internships are for a minimum of 1 year.
What will you build?
Both interns will serve under the direction of the Director of HHB. The work will primarily be focused on supporting the recovery efforts across Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.
Goal: Provide general program support to the Habitat Hammers Back team to support it realizing its goals
- Support the research and program needs of the recovery program
- Assist with information management and coordination of the Puerto Rico Recovery Program
- Work with Habitat’s field staff in Texas Florida and Puerto Rico in completing information and materials towards case studies and cut sheets (documents, project reports, photos, etc.).
- Write case studies and other informational materials to document successes and lessons learned of the HHB Program
- Support field level communications and information management
- Support the role-out of Habitat’s Preparedness program in select areas.
- Perform other tasks as requested.
- Grade Point Average: 3.0 or better
- Language: Bilingual (Spanish/English) a big plus
- Excellent writing skills.
- Knowledge of disaster response work in the USA; knowledge of humanitarian response architecture, risk reduction concepts and international development work desired.
- Good interpersonal skills and intercultural relations.
- Experience with reporting and systematization of raw information.
- Some experience with humanitarian-related work desired.
- Location: This position is based at our Habitat for Humanity International HQ in Atlanta, GA
- Duration: Intern required 3- 5 days/week; 1 year or 2 semesters, with the option to stay on for longer.
