Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is looking for a seasoned security professional for the role of Safety and Security Manager, who will be responsible for reviewing industry-recognized security and safety programs and standards, including internationally, on an ongoing basis for adaptation for the organization. In addition, this key member of our staff works on developing and implementing policies, procedures and training to support the organization's safety and security, including maintaining relationships with external agencies and partners designed to enhance security and safety for staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders. The Safety and Security Manager also supports vital special projects, including HFHI’s safeguarding program related to the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
Habitat has operations in more than 70 countries around the world, so it is essential for candidates to have had experience supporting and/or traveling to developing country locations. In addition, the successful candidate understands the importance of upholding the safety of Habitat's staff traveling around the world and will have no qualms about being able to quickly respond to security-related issues 24/7/365.
- In cooperation with the executive leadership team, lead and facilitate effective strategies to mitigate risk, maintain continuity of operations and safeguard HFHI staff, volunteers and other stakeholders
- Assist in the development of safety and risk assessments and development of security protocols in disaster-affected locations where HFHI implements a humanitarian response involving the deployment of personnel
- Coordinate security planning in all HFHI offices, in collaboration with field operations managers. Continue to develop and update written security procedures and standards for further consideration and adoption
- Develop, implement, and maintain personal and corporate safety and security practices and policies throughout the organization to reduce risk, limit exposure and liability, and safeguard HFHI's assets and personnel
- Develop safety and security tool kits for implementation by international area offices and affiliates
- Develop and implement SOPs and contingency plans, where appropriate
- Serve as resident expert within the organization for international and domestic security issues, as needed, such as:
- Coordination of security planning for staff travel
- Coordination of security planning for specific events
- Responding promptly to facilitate communications between international personnel and appropriate HFHI staff when international security issues develop
- Serve as primary liaison with outside vendors supporting HFHI’s safety and security program
- Develop relationships with external agencies and partners such as InterAction’s SAG (Security Advisory Group) and OSAC to enhance security procedures*Maintain proficiency on pertinent Safety and Security Information
- Analyze and publish global travel advisories on Habitat's intranet
- 5+ years of experience including managing safety and security protocols
- Project Management certification (PMP Level 1) or 3-5 years’ project management experience
- Extensive international travel in developing country settings
- 3-5 years of experience with international non-governmental organization (NGO) policies and procedures
- Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite software proficiency
- Willing and able to travel up to 20% internationally (might reach 20% initially for orientation purposes, but will be less than 20% regularly)
- Willing and able to quickly respond to security-related issues 24/7/365
PREFERRED:
- 3+ years of experience managing or supporting international travel security processes
- Previous experience in managing safety and security plans for work in humanitarian response settings
- Spanish language skills
- Certification from American Society for Industrial Security
