LAPPS (Latino Association for Parents of Public Schools) mission is to empower parents to be fundamental & active participants in their children’s education. Our vision is the collaboration between parents, schools & communities to promote success through equity & access in education.  

LAPPS leads advocacy efforts for Latinos by recently collaborating with the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) Board of Education to pass the first language access policy in the state of Georgia.  Also, through the creation and authoring of its APS Equity Report-State of Atlanta Public Schools is prime example of seeking greater levels of accountability and urgency toward systemic change within our own community.

LAPPS is at an inflection point and ready to add to its team. The organization has successfully positioned itself as the go-to parent educational Latino organization & thought-leader in the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) system. Our advocacy effort, mindset and passion come together to identify and empower our community to positively impact broader systemic change within public schools systems.

Position Summary

Reporting to organization’s President - acting Executive Director, the Equity Program Director (EPD) is a key management leader of LAPPS responsible for leading in a manner that supports and guides LAPPS mission & objectives.  The EPD will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for its programs and expansion. Will oversee, actively participate and implement the organization’s equity-advocacy empowerment programming efforts within the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) system. Develop and maintain strong relationships with advocacy, civic and policy organizations/partners.  The EPD is responsible for managing our in-school direct-services Equity Angeles, empowerment training, parent-member direct services, partner development, strategic analysis and development, community outreach and empowerment of our Equity Community Manager (ECM).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In conjunction with acting-executive director the position will oversee staff and ensure ongoing programming excellence, effectiveness within the operations, management, communications, relationships and community outreach goals
  • Craft, cultivate, set up frequency and execute Equity Advocacy & Empowerment Training curriculum series and identify continuous development opportunities
  • Actively manage, train, engage, energize and motivate (when appropriate) LAPPS team-staff and volunteers, partnering organizations and funders. Lift up your community!
  • Assist strategic long term program planning, expansion goals and budgets with acting-executive director
  • Collaborate & develop parent-membership benefits, direct-services, levels, tools, manage lead-generation, activities and membership growth toward funnel development and empowerment
  • Create programs measurement tools, oversee data collection, quantify, interpret and evaluate outcomes for accountability and growth visibility
  • Represents the organization at public events, schools, conferences, leading activities and spokesperson roles.  Attend relevant partnership meetings to connect with key stakeholders
  • Oversee marketing and communications efforts
  • Supervise ECM (Equity Community Manager) role for programming integration, planning, collaboration efficiencies and activations of event calendar
  • Develop & manage Equity Angeles program, reporting & communications process
  • Keep staff accountable and motivated to meet and accomplish quarterly progress toward goal completion
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Must have a bachelor degree (BA, BS) in related field (Master’s Degree helps; Not preferred)
Skills/Experience: 
  • Fully English/Spanish bilingual and bicultural – language and cultural competency to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in the Hispanic/Latino community
  • Detailed-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and written skills
  • At least 5 years of working experience in similar role: Nonprofit management, school educational system, fundraising, experiential, business/program-development, partnership-marketing and/or sales a plus
  • High-level strategic thinking and development
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Work well in a team-oriented environment and able to flourish relationships
  • Experience in meeting facilitation and/or community relations
  • Experience leading public presentations, trainings and speaking engagements
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and other pertinent programs
  • Candidate must be open to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
