We have an exciting opportunity for a Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Information Management Specialist. Reporting to the Program Development and Quality Manager, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Information Management Specialist will serve Information, data and knowledge management needs for the DR3 department in long-term programming and Disaster Response. In addition, s/he will support the collection of information to support grant management across US/Can DR3 programs and Global DR3 programs, and will provide logistical and admin support to the DR3 team.
This position will be based at the Administrative headquarters located in downtown Atlanta, GA, and requires 15% travel.
Information Management during a Disaster response ( (US- Level I, II, III, or International, Level III in coordination with the Area Office)
- In coordination with IT, MEAL Global Analytics and US Operations/HHB teams Support damage assessment data collection and analysis
- Support research and analysis for background and situational data in coordination with Global Analytics/ IT/ Programs teams
- US/Can Context: a) Socio/demographic and housing situation before crisis at local and state level, b) Key housing issues at a state level, c) Habitat activities by SSO and affiliates, d) Relevant FEMA data
- International Context: a) Socio/demographic and housing crisis including applicable housing policy at country level. b) Key Housing issues at National level c) Analysis and compilation of Key information shared by OCHA, Shelter Cluster, ACAPS, National government, WB PDNA
- Liaise with communications for analysis of media monitoring during a disaster, and ensuring that relevant information is timely captured in the disaster portal
- Liaise with GIS/Global Analytics team to produce real time analysis of affected areas available through Geographic Information Systems and ensure that relevant resources are captured in Disaster Portal
- Develop internal situation reports and manage information flow
- Deployable as needed to a disaster disaster affected area domestically and/or international
Information Management and Knowledge Management outside of Disaster Response:
- Coordinate information flow to portals such as the DR3 SharePoint sites, the HFHI Global Center for Disaster Resilience (GCDR), and in coordination with communications with DR3 public facing in habitat.org and with Myhabitat publishers
- Become the focal point from DR3 to coordinate with IT, MEAL and Global Analytics in the development of improved Disaster Information Management Systems
- Coordinate information gathering on current grants regarding achievement of program objectives, timelines and outputs, to ensure appropriate reporting to donor
- Serve as DR3 topic Lead in the coordination of Disaster Response participation in HFHI Global Conference 2019, and affiliate/SSO Mini- Conferences
- Compile best practice and develop case studies from DR3 programming
Resource Development support
- Contribute with data analysis and DR3 facts to concept notes for resource development during a disaster
- Support Knowledge management needs for program development and fundraising efforts
- Produce research pieces to support program development and knowledge sharing and fundraising efforts
Operations support
- Schedule coordination calls and working group meetings; take and distribute notes
- Compile and process payment requests and expense reports
- Coordinate project and working group calendar
- Coordinate travel to disaster affected areas
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
- 1-3 years of related experience
- Strong written and oral, and graphic communication skills required
- Knowledge of humanitarian shelter and settlements programming both in the US context and International context; including in technical areas related to Disaster Risk Reduction and Response)
- Strong research and analysis capacity required
- Ability to generate fresh ideas sought
- Needs to be a critical thinker; attentive to detail; a self-starter; have strong organizational skills; be flexible; able to work with minimal supervision; able to multi-task; have excellent customer service outlook
- Must have excellent organizational skills, especially in the area of information management
- Successful candidate will have strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, in design, Adobe illustrator
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity operations preferred
- knowledge of other language other than English desired
