Expands the American Cancer Society’s reach, relevance and impact with external audiences as a member of the public relations team within Corporate Communications. Directs account management, develops communications strategy, executes public relations tactics, develops communications materials and provides overall support to advance the communications priorities of the organization.
Account Management
- Leads account management for large-scale, communications planning projects for a defined business portfolio. Manages relationships with internal business units on behalf of Corporate Communications.
- Coordinates strategies and tactics that span all areas of communications competencies, with an emphasis on expanding reach, relevance and impact with external audiences.
- Collaborates with Corporate Communications staff in discreet disciplines (i.e., media relations, organizational communications, multimedia, reputation management, etc.) to develop integrated public relations plans and deliver high-impact communications through a variety of channels.
- Provides exceptional client service, delivering work on time and within agreed upon cost.
- Engages and oversees outside counsel, including agency support, freelancers and other outsourcing resources as appropriate.
External Communications Strategy/Engagement
- Provides counsel and develops and implements communications strategies for a defined business portfolio, with an emphasis on expanding reach, relevance and impact with external audiences.
- Engages in strategies and tactics that include (but are not limited to) promotional campaigns, original content development, online influencer engagement and nationwide events.
- Identifies, engages and cultivates relationships with key external stakeholders and influencers to help advance the core business objectives within a defined business portfolio.
- Develops and enhances partnerships that expand reach, relevance and impact with external audiences.Communications Development
- Creates and writes communications, tools and resources to promote priority initiatives externally
- Develops clear and compelling messaging in support of client’s business objectives.
- Contributes to materials used by business unit staff, field staff and volunteers to execute a variety of external strategic efforts.Additional Responsibilities
- Represents Corporate Communications on inter-disciplinary projects and cross-functional work groups.
- Develops and maintains a deep understanding of the competitive environment, industry trends and developments within relevant partner industries.
- Trains key volunteer communications influencers and champions, and American Cancer Society collaborators on our promotional initiatives and products.
- 7-10 years of experience in developing and implementing communications programs andmaterials for a variety of audiences.
- Prior experience in international health issues, research science, health systems policy and practice strongly preferred.
