The Director of Investigations will oversee HFHI's whistleblower hotline and other mechanisms for reporting potential fraud and misconduct. They will be responsible for planning, organizing, conducting and managing investigations of cases of alleged fraud, misconduct, or violations of HFH policy in accordance with appropriate professional standards and HFHI's relevant policies.
The Director of Investigations will support management in improving HFH operations by ensuring that lessons learned from investigations are effectively shared internally and supporting management, as they address any necessary remediating actions. In addition, the Investigations Director will serve as Habitat’s primary subject matter expert on fraud prevention and detection. This position will be based at HFHI's Administrative Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Oversee the operations of the whistleblower hotline and drive HFHI’s efforts to maintain its comprehensive global repository for all allegations of misconduct, by ensuring that all such complaints are acknowledged timely, routed appropriately, investigated thoroughly, and documented effectively (15%).
- Plan, lead and perform investigations of allegations of fraud or misconduct in accordance with HFHI policy and applicable professional standards. Includes investigation scoping, planning, fieldwork (document analysis, interviews, field visits, oversight of staff, etc.), reports of findings and recommendations, and verbal and written communications with relevant HFH management related to findings and necessary corrective actions (50%).
- Collaborate with management to provide anti-fraud consulting and advisory services, ensuring that fraud risks and lessons learned from investigations are shared internally and incorporated into HFH policies and procedures (20%).
- Prepare of reports and presentations for management, board and Audit Committee meetings related to investigation and hotline performance and effectiveness (5%).
- Develop HFH protocols (including policies, procedures, timelines, roles and responsibilities) for communicating the use of the whistleblower hotline and appropriately conducting investigations while respecting the principles of confidentiality, objectivity and impartiality (5%).
- Provide strategic direction, planning, staff development, and performance monitoring for the Investigations Unit of HFHI (5%).
- Years of Related Experience: 10 years of domestic and international experience in conducting complex forensic investigations (including the pursuit of insurance claims and/or legal recourse), preferably with a professional service firm (e.g. public accounting firm), large international non-profit or corporation
- CPA or CIA and CFE
- At least a bachelor degree in accounting, finance or related field
- Expert-level skills in investigative interviewing and forensic data analysis
- Excellent English communication skills, including both interpersonal communications and professional/technical writing
- Experience managing multiple projects and providing direction to team
- Proficient in Microsoft office technology, with strong Excel data analysis skills
- Outstanding personal and professional integrity
