The Database Engineer will work as part of the Architecture and Data Management Team to build efficient and scalable database solutions for transactional applications as well as reporting and analysis. The DB Engineer will be a key contributor to the improvement of database systems by conducting routine performance analysis and applying optimization to database configurations or underlying SQL code, which will then be applied to the production system after load testing. The role will work with project teams to design and build application as well as analytic data models, build instances to house the physical databases, and implement stored procedures or integration services packages for transactional as well as bulk data movement. The DB Engineer will work with the Enterprise Data Architect as well as Application Architects in detailed design efforts, and will provide technical documentation of their work.  The position demands that the DB Engineer constantly strives to be on the current edge of technical trends and practices with the intent of translating that knowledge into continuous database or process improvement.  The role will have frequent opportunities to collaborate with many diverse individuals and teams looking to leverage everyone's unique skill sets that range from Business Analysts, Functional Designers, Solution Architects, and Service Layer Developers.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, implement and package database designs and updates for application releases
  • Perform database and query performance reviews, and implementing changes
  • Manage and support development and test databases
  • Analyze current databases for performance opportunities
  • Install, configure and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server, Teradata or Oracle software instances
  • Develop and maintain documentation and development standards
  • Implement performance optimizations through lower regions and package for deployment to production.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field of engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 4+ years in IT data-related fields including Database Administration, ETL Development, SQL Development or similar.
  • Minimum of 4+ years working as a DBA or Database Engineer with focus on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle RDBMS, Teradata, or some combination of all
  • At minimum 3 years in PL/SQL or Transact-SQL
  • Strong technical, analytic, and problem-solving skills
  • At least 3 years with Oracle 10g+ or Microsoft SQL Server (versions 2005 and higher) SQL Development or Database Administration in Development or Test Environments
  • Demonstrated experience creating SSIS packages
  • Prior experience with configuration and change and release management using standard tools
  • Existing experience in Unit and Integration testing as part of the project lifecycle
  • Detailed knowledge of relational database administration systems in general
  • Proven SQL Server Database, Teradata or Oracle Database query performance tuning ability

  • Must be strong self-starter able to work independently under limited supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Prior involvement with software projects using .NET for transaction processing
  • Advanced knowledge of PL/SQL, Transact-SQL, data modeling, physical database design, and performance tuning.
  • SSIS design/development in SQL Server 2012 a plus
  • Prior knowledge of Siebel database structures a plus
  • Prior experience with Teradata (v.13 and higher) a strong plus
