The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Warriors to Work Manager (Career Transition Manager) leads a team of Warriors to Work Specialists (Career Transition Specialists) as they provide career transition guidance for warriors to obtain gainful employment and meaningful career opportunities, with the objective of helping wounded service members secure rewarding and successful careers leading to long-term financial security and financial wellness for themselves and their families.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage a team of local and remote WWP Warriors to Work Specialists, mentoring and developing their skills and abilities, and guiding the team’s performance to achieve Warriors to Work program goals and objectives and effectively deliver career transition guidance and employment activities for wounded warriors and their families.
  • Oversee career transition services provided to warriors for their career development, i.e., resume and cover letter building, effective interviewing skills, networking, managing expectations, job placement, and career mentoring.
  • Provide support to Warriors to Work team members as they help warriors translate military skillsets, develop skills, establish a personal brand, and obtain gainful, meaningful employment. Oversee periodic post-job placement check-ins with employers, warriors, and family members providing support as appropriate to help ensure sustained employment.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and host employment workshops for warriors, e.g. career guidance, skills development, and employer hiring events.
  • Develop and manage the office/department budget, ensuring proper expense controls and accurate records.
  • Develop business relationships with corporate employers for the Warriors to Work program. Manage corporate relationships to create employment opportunities for WWP alumni and family support members.
  • Develop effective working relationships with local employers to ensure high quality, responsive service delivery. Gain employer support for and participation in the Warriors to Work program.
  • Provide employers with information and education about service-connected injuries and with military skills translation. Facilitate the establishment of best practices for veteran hiring.
  • Establish strong professional relationships with employers, veteran service organizations (VSOs), community organizations, local military installations, and vocational training, certification, and placement organizations. Effectively communicate the WWP mission, vision, values, and the importance of the Warriors to Work program.
  • Develop community support for WWP. Present WWP vision and values to the community, communicating the benefits of WWP programs and services, and inspire them to become involved with and support the WWP vision.
  • Collaborate with teammates across WWP programs to increase alumni and family support members’ awareness and understanding of WWP Warriors to Work Financial Wellness programs.
  • Increase enrollment in the Warriors to Work program.
  • Ensure current and accurate data is maintained in the electronic tracking systems, e.g., SalesForce.
  • Collect and report results and performance metrics for Warriors to Work events and activities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in human resources or business management.
Skills/Experience:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and build effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of budget management and fiduciary oversight principles.
  • Strong networking skills to build working relationships with community leaders including employers, VSOs, military, and vocational and training organizations.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, assignments, and priorities within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, be decisive, influence others, and influence change.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills. Confident communicator with demonstrated ability to present information effectively to large audiences, small groups, and individuals.
  • Well-developed critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Unequivocal commitment to the highest standards of personal and business ethics and conduct.

  • Bachelor’s degree. An equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Five years of business recruitment experience in a corporate environment.
  • Three years of staff management experience.

Preferences

  • Experience working with or supporting military and/or veteran populations, especially assisting them to find gainful employment.
  • Demonstrated experience growing and developing outcome-oriented career goals for veterans.
  • Two years of experience successfully creating and maintaining long-term business partnerships.
  • Business development experience in a nonprofit environment.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
