Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a collaborative direct marketing professional for the role of Associate Director - Collaborative Direct Marketing. The position works closely on the Collaborative Operating Model, an effort of Habitat’s U.S. ministry – affiliates, state support organizations and Habitat for Humanity International – to make a truly collaborative and high-trust model work to materially boost our mission to impact the housing deficit at scale. As part of that work, Habitat has developed and is implementing direct marketing pilots that will bring 10-20 affiliates and Habitat for Humanity International together to collaborate on both digital and direct mail fundraising. There are two parts to making this a reality. The first is recruiting, onboarding and maintaining good working relationships with the participating affiliates. The second is integrating the work of the pilots with an established, robust direct marketing fundraising program that has been in place at HFHI for 40 years. 

Under the direction of the Vice President, Direct Marketing, the Associate Director, Collaborative Direct Marketing will be responsible for orchestrating the integration activities within HFHI to bring the pilots to life. The primary focus of the integration work will be integrating the pilots with the current direct marketing program. This work will include coordinating cross functional teams in the areas of IT, Finance, Partner Service Center (donor services), Communications, Development Operations and other stakeholders across the ministry. addition, the Associate Director will work with outside agencies to help implement the pilots. This position will work closely with the Director, Collaborative Direct Marketing who will be responsible for the recruiting, onboarding and servicing of the affiliates participating in the pilot.

The Associate Director will serve as the lead for gathering requirements, setting timelines, and managing both internal and external resources (including agency and other external resources) as it relates to the integration of the pilot programs inside of HFHI.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as a key member of the pilot's “Core Team”. This is a cross functional team of managers and leaders who can garner resources from various parts of the organization in order to implement this work. The Associate Director will be responsible for developing agendas and coordinating/managing the Core Team meetings
  • Develop and implement “contracts” with the various internal stakeholders regarding work plans that are required to deliver on the intent of the pilot program
  • The position, in collaboration with the Director, Collaborative Direct Marketing, will be responsible for $4 million in revenue and $2 million in expenses in FY20, including managing the budget, invoices and contracts with external agencies and vendors for the pilot
  • The Associate Director will manage the project plan/timelines/resource plan established for the pilots. They will then drive the process of setting up the required meetings to keep the project moving forward. They will be the primary person documenting the conversations that take place, including action items, and helping the various team members drive specific tasks to completion
  • Establish good working relationships with cross functional teams. Those teams will include HFHI Direct Marketing, IT, Finance, Partner Service Center, Individual Giving, Research, Development Operations, Communications, and Legal (among others)
  • Work with the current HFHI Direct Marketing team to develop reports and analyses to assess the success of the pilot efforts and use this data to help make strategic and tactical decision for the COM DM program
  • Serve as a primary resource to the COM Direct Marketing Pilot Steering Committee to whom the Core Team will report
  • Develop status reports for the integration work
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 5 years of professional experience with direct marketing
  • Bring a combination of strategic, creative and analytical thinking along with a sense of urgency around achieving fundraising goals
  • Experience collaborating with others in a complex, matrix-structured, dynamic organizational environment
  • Multi-million dollar expense budget management experience
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data driven decisions that lead to innovative approaches for developing fundraising programs
  • Demonstrated track record of successful fundraising in an environment of similar complexity
  • Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, with excellent listening skills
  • Passion for and commitment to the HFH mission
  • Ability to “ignite passion” and create and communicate excitement about HFH’s compelling mission
  • Strong technology skills and experience that ideally includes an understanding of: large-scale database management; nonprofit constituency relationship management systems; and web-application development processes
  • Self-starter with a creative approach to problem-solving, and the ability to take advantage of emerging opportunities and trends
  • Individual with high energy level, self-confidence and a positive “can-do” attitude are essential
  • Individual of unquestionable integrity whose professional and personal conduct reflect HFH’s values
  • Excellent relationship building and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Office and computer equipment skills (internet, Excel, email, electronic calendar, word processing, electronic forms, Microsoft Environment) are required.
