Assistant Scientist, Study Management

Working in a team environment, perform various administrative, data entry and project specific duties related to the management and maintenance of the Cancer Prevention Studies (CPS-II and CPS-3) within the Behavioral and Epidemiology Research Group.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Contribute to the resolution of discrepant National Death Index records for CPS-II and CPS-3 by following standard procedures and adhering to existing protocols.  
  • Support CPS-3 lost to follow-up activities surrounding survey mailings and newsletter mailings using internet resources, phone contact, written contact, and data broker (LexisNexis).
  • Assist with the consent, acquisition and management of medical records from CPS-3, including participant contact, document receipt, tracking, storage, and data entry.
  • Support biospecimen collection efforts through the receipt, labeling and scanning of research materials.
  • Assist with all special research projects undertaken by the Study and Biospecimen Management Group.
  • Maintain current study management documentation of all administrative activities and proficiently execute tasks as assigned.
Educational Background: 
BS/BA with up to 2 years experience; or 3+ years of relevant experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience with personal computers, including familiarity with word processing and spreadsheets, required.  
  • Experience with database management very helpful.
  • Strong organizational and oral and written communication skills necessary.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a focused and timely manner.
  • Two or more years of work experience, preferably within a research environment where data collection systems and protocols have been standardized.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and collecting and processing medical records very helpful.
