The Senior Volunteer Engagement Manager will develop and deliver volunteer engagement strategies to support the successful implementation of the Society’s new health equity priorities. This position will be critical to integrating volunteers into a new area of mission. This position will lead and deliver on a plan to: increase health equity awareness among ACS volunteers nationwide; recruit and onboard volunteer champions to increase capacity at all levels of the organization; support the mobilization of 12 community based leadership teams through volunteer engagement; and support the establishment of a new health equity National Advisory Council of volunteers. This position will partner with regions, global headquarter leadership and with stakeholders to consult and deliver volunteer engagement resources that leverage the Society’s platforms (Volunteer Care Team, Volunteer Learning Center, National Volunteer Training Team, etc.). This is a grant funded position with funding secured from a foundation for a three-year project period.
- Lead, coordinate and implement the development and delivery of volunteer engagement strategies to support health equity priorities.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to build health equity knowledge and skills among ACS volunteers nationwide through trainings, awareness building tactics, and resources.
- Partner with regions and health equity program team to identify and mobilize a cadre of volunteer champions in order to build organizational capacity to advance health equity.
- Ensures successful creation of new volunteer roles, including recruitment, onboarding, recognition and retention to support health equity work.
- Support the mobilization of 12 community leadership teams through effective volunteer capacity building.
- Support the establishment and stewardship of a national volunteer advisory council; advise and consult on effective volunteer-staff partnership of this group.
- Provide technical assistance and consultation to ACS staff and volunteers, Regions and the health equity program team on volunteer engagement.
- Monitor, track and document emerging issues, trends, best practices and outcomes from volunteer engagement strategies for advancing health equity.
- Ensures global headquarter staff and regions work effectively with volunteers by collaborating with volunteer development, volunteer staff partnership training and other enabling tools and resources.
- Leverages ACS platforms such as skills based volunteering, Volunteer Learning Center, National Volunteer Training Team, Volunteer Care Team, and My Society Source to accomplish volunteer engagement strategies.
- Ensures that volunteer-staff partnership is beneficial and troubleshoot where there are issues; develop evaluation and feedback mechanisms and ensure timely response and application of insight to larger volunteer engagement team where appropriate.
- Model and foster behavior that establishes a culture that values the volunteer staff partnership, and is consistent with the values, goals and objectives of the Society to create an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, accountability, empowerment, and dedication to the mission.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive volunteer management experience.
- Knowledge of ACS organization required.
- Knowledge of cancer control, public health, health policy, health promotion preferred but not required.
- Proven experience in volunteerism and volunteer/staff partnership; demonstrated success working through and in partnership with volunteers to accomplish goals.
- Strong volunteer recruitment, engagement, training and placement skills/experience, and the ability to influence without authority; demonstrated ability to balance tactical responsibilities with the ability to influence, educate and guide leadership in volunteer engagement.Demonstrates Volunteer Engagement Competencies:

- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Travel will be required to ensure strategic alignment.
