Provides HR generalist services and consultation to employees and managers.  Collaborates with Talent Strategy (TS) department and client leaders to ensure that HR services meet strategic business objectives, are consistent with market best practices, and comply with legal requirements.  Provides direct human resources support to assigned clients by applying fundamental business and HR concepts to assignments; carries out Society HR and TS programs, policies, processes, and services. Provides a wide range of HR Generalist services to client executives, directors, managers, and employees.  Acts as first level resolution to inquiries regarding employee relations, compensation, payroll, benefits, and learning and development.

Areas of Responsibility: 

HR BUSINESS PARTNER SUPPORT

  • Implements client-specific people programs and processes to execute or enhance enterprise Talent initiatives and strategies and maintains an integrated focus for Human Resources’ overall goals
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of client strategies and objectives, the competitive landscape, current and potential future business challenges. Conducts HR SWOT analyses to review with client executives
  • Develops, customizes and implements strategic HR planning and processes across assigned client base.
  • Serves as an internal consultant to client constituencies regarding application of all aspects of Human Resources to include initial point of advice, problem resolution and facilitation, Corrective Actions, and Performance Improvement Plans
  • Works with client management and OD consultants to evaluate organizational design, work assignments, and staffing levels. Assists client management with appropriate department structure.  Consults on flexible work arrangements
  • Partners with Talent Attraction, Talent Development, Total Rewards, and Inclusion Strategy functions to provide client specific HR services (training, staffing, etc.)
  • Monitors employee relations issues and turnover to determine trends.  Works closely with Talent Strategy CoEs to recommend actions appropriate for problem resolution and processes to prevent and solve employee issues
  • Gains working knowledge of assigned client-base to assist in the initial creation of career paths for employees, and works with client management to develop cross training and temporary special assignment opportunities for employees
  • Aligns with the Talent Attraction team to determine appropriate staffing levels and recruitment efforts for assigned clients

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Designs and deploys the work of multiple projects engaged in the establishment and implementation of new strategies and processes for Human Resources and assigned clients
  • Collaborate with Talent functional experts on client-specific initiatives in disseminating information and services to assigned clients
  • Participates in task forces to ensure HR-related best practices and process improvements

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Provides guidance to staff and managers on performance interventions and other performance related issues
  • Offers employee counseling and HR consulting to client executives, directors, and managers
  • Works with management to consult, plan, and execute on the involuntary separation process
  • Conducts exit interviews and the administration and analysis of data trends for involuntary and voluntary separations
  • Recommends specific development and/or skills training.  Assists with program development for leadership training and retreats and other leadership development opportunities with Talent Development partners.  Provides Coaching and Mentoring opportunities for staff who request or who are referred

RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION

  • Consults with Talent Attraction regarding selection efforts for positions within assigned clients

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

  • Partners with Total Rewards to coordinate salary administration and incentive pay programs to ensure competitive benchmarks; makes recommendations for local market pay rate ranges and incentives plans
  • Teams with Total Rewards to ensure job descriptions are updated and performance tools have objective standards and appropriate measures of performance.  Ensures necessary training is facilitated and consults with client leaders on compensation related issues
  • Offers employee relations guidance on FMLA related issues

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Partners with HR Services to ensure proper application of programs, policies and procedures across assigned client-base. Customizes policies to comply with local requirements.   Ensures all policies are communicated and that staff are fully orientated to existing and new policies, and managers/supervisors are trained on how to administer policies fairly and equitably  
  • Provides clarification on company leave policies including PTO, SFLP holiday, bereavement, FMLA and ADA accommodations; also provides clarification on payroll issues

COMPLIANCE AND REPORTING

  • Reviews turnover analysis, staffing forecasts and ER issues to determine trends and provides guidance to client management
  • Ensures all reductions, corrective actions and terminations are handled in a manner which is legal and minimizes negative impact for the organization and ensures fairness to the employee
  • Investigates internal and external formal complaints. Serves as the first point of contact for EEO related inquiries
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Six -  eight years of HR Generalist/internal business partner consulting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in principles and practices of Human Resources management, as well as of local, state and federal employment laws
  • Human Resources professional certification (SHRM-SCP/SPHR/SHRM-CP/PHR) preferred

Other Skills:

  • Knowledge of HR best practices and demonstrated success working as an HR strategic partner or consultant; experience developing employment practices, policies and recruitment/staffing strategies
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices with demonstrated leadership and team building abilities
  • Strategic business management and organizational planning skills; short-and long-term operations planning skills; skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Ability to build relationships, and foster a cooperative work environment with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; ability to build consensus and to work through others in achieving desired results and objectives
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, decision-making, problem solving, project management, negotiation and customer service skills
  • Consistent ability to set and deliver against a work plan in a fast-paced environment, giving attention to detail even under high pressure situations
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills; strong word processing, database management and spreadsheet skills, preferably with MS Outlook or MS Office
  • The work environment is climate controlled and the duties of the position are considered as office work with moderate travel as determined by the Vice President, Human Resources
  • No or very limited physical effort required
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk
