Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking an experienced General/Corporate Paralegal to join the Legal team at our Administration Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, the General/Corporate Paralegal will provide both corporate paralegal and compliance support by assisting attorneys in transactional and compliance work,as well as training & learning development and administrative assistance to the Legal Staff. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Paralegal support and project management for the Habitat legal department: 

Compliance and Corporate:

  •  Provide paralegal support of complex domestic and foreign transactions, e.g. maintain closing checklists, prepare corporate resolutions, officer’s certificates and related transactional documents
  • Coordinate legalization and apostiles for international banking and corporate documents
  • Conduct KYC searches of vendors and others for anti-terrorism compliance
  • Oversee regular compliance matters such as recurring and special domestic and foreign registrations
  • Prepare compliance and reporting materials for government and institutional grants
  • Maintain record retention policy and compliance
  • support data privacy policy compliance and project management

Training and legal resource maintenance: 

  • Assist in providing training resources to Habitat employees and affiliated organizations:
    • Revise, publish and maintain legal training materials on Habitat's intranet
    • Prepare and maintain contract and policy templates for reference by employees and affiliates on Habitat’s intranet
    • Support Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Director and maintain ERM and governance website
    • Act as a contact for U.S. call center to direct callers to intranet resources, route legal questions, and coordinate responses from attorneys
    • Use Westlaw and internet to assist in legal research
  • Assist other paralegal work for Habitat as needed, such as:
    • Coordinate dissolution process for U.S. affiliates and international organizations
    • Support for trademark enforcement - Report fraudulent emails, prepare cease and desist letters and track progress
    • Prepare and submit tax filings and registrations with the IRS
    • Support of litigation - track case progress, coordinate responses
    • File and Maintain Business, Corporate and Charitable registrations

Administrative assistance for the legal staff, including: 

  • Maintain files & Coordinate meetings 
  • Coordinate travel, Process expenses & Order supplies
  • Prepare/Revise General Correspondence, Memoranda, Reports, PowerPoint Presentations and other Legal documents
  • Photocopy & Compile records and Review/Distribute mail
Educational Background: 
Bachelors degree & Paralegal Certification or Equivalent qualification
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 or more years of Corporate Paralegal work
  • Possess strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills 
  • Project management and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Process oriented with a positive outlook, a strong work ethic and an even-keeled demeanor 
  • Comfortable in a global, humanitarian, Christian organization
  • High level of proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office Suite applications (including Excel and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency with Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, or similar research platforms
  • Licensed notary or willingness to obtain notary shortly after hire
  • Proficiency with internal learning databases and SharePoint preferred
  • Spanish or other language beneficial but not required
  • Grant Management experience beneficial but not required
  • Litigation support experience beneficial but not required
  • International experience beneficial but not required
