With an annual operating budget of $300M, HFHI recently launched a multi-year strategic plan that will expand programs and build capacity to exponentially assist more people in need of improved housing.

The need for affordable housing has never been more urgent. More than 1.6 billion people lack safe, decent and affordable shelter. Communities and nations around the globe urgently need the stability and hope that decent housing and equitable access to shelter can help foster. These are the realities behind the development of Habitat for Humanity International’s strategic plan. As stated by Habitat leaders: “We must do more. We must do it faster. We must do it with more impact. And we must work with others to expand reach and depth. Our methods will vary from location to location, but all must drive us closer to the day when everyone has a decent place to live.”

Habitat’s strategic plan builds squarely on the organization’s mission, vision, and principles. The plan will come to life in communities worldwide, as people from all sectors of society unite in support of Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Based in Atlanta, GA, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and serving as a key member of the Senior Management Group and Senior Leadership Team, the Chief People Officer will work with the CEO and other members of HFHI’s leadership team to ensure the necessary human resources, learning systems, and organizational development support in order to implement the organization’s strategic initiatives and achieve goals specified in Habitat’s strategic plan.

The position has responsibility over four separate budgets totaling $4 million and is directly responsible for 33 positions in two countries and indirectly responsible for an additional 18 positions in 4 countries. The position has 5 direct reports and supports 700+ HFHI staff members and the work of more than 1,300 US Habitat affiliates and 60+ Habitat affiliated countries.

This position requires leadership through influencing strategies across multiple groups and locations within a federated organizational model, as well as through effective use of the authority of the Senior Vice President / Chief People Officer title and role.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide guidance for creation and deployment of global HR and capacity building strategies that support the new strategic plan, at headquarters and on a consultative basis, at area and country offices
· Lead succession planning processes.
· Lead initiatives focused on creating environments that ensure opportunities for professional development and spiritual growth.
· Learning and knowledge sharing:

  • Lead new initiatives and innovations in collaborative learning strategies, promoting sharing of best practices globally
  • Guide ongoing improvements in learning and knowledge sharing that support global operations including technology infrastructure, social media applications, learning operations, and vendor relationships
· Provide executive oversight for all HR functions and processes including:
  • Talent Acquisition
  • Talent development and management processes, including leadership development
  • Global compensation, employee benefits, rewards and recognition systems, and retirement plans
  • Design and implementation of employee engagement surveys
  • Employee relations and communications
  • HR measurement systems
  • Corporate internships, fellowships, and university partnerships
  • International volunteer programs
  • Mobilization of resources/deployment of staff to respond to disaster situations

· Through personal actions and organizational processes, reinforce a culture of respect, service, and results.
· Serve as trusted advisor to senior-level executive and board members.
· Build collaborative relationships across departments/functions based on trust, common objectives, and joint accountability for results.
· Guide budgeting and strategic planning processes.

REQUIREMENTS
Skills and Experience:
· Experienced HR professional and/or learning expert with either corporate or not for profit experience, combination of both a plus.
· 10 years in a HR and Organizational Learning leadership role.
· Global and international experience, ideally living and working abroad.
· Bachelor’s degree required; master's in Organizational Development, Psychology, or related field highly desirable.
· Demonstrated ability to influence across multiple groups and locations, for example, gained in an organization with a federation model; professional services firm; for-profit company with highly autonomous operating units; or other global organization where influencing without direct authority is an important success factor.
· HR generalist background with particular strengths in talent management including learning and development and organization development OR specialist in talent management, learning & development and organizational development, with some HR generalist experience.
