Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented individual for the role of a Associate Director - Disaster Risk Reduction and Response (DR3) Strategic Support. The Associate Director - Disaster Risk Reduction and Response (DR3) Strategic Support contributes to the strengthening of HFHI's DR³ capacity in service to affiliated organizations throughout the HFH global network. This position leads the DR³ knowledge management function and supports capacity building/training, leadership development, networking, fundraising efforts and grant management. This position will be based out of HFHI's administrative headquarters in Atlanta, GA.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Build the capacity of HFHI & HFH entities to design and implement disaster risk reduction and disaster response programs (20%):

  • Directs and contributes to the development of training materials and training modules with DR³ and Learning teams
  • Manages and contributes to staff and volunteer training in the area of DR³ in coordination with DR³ and Learning teams; when needed facilitates training sessions
  • Manages capacity building grants held at HFHI HQ DR³ level

Disseminate DR³ promising practices and internationally-accepted standards throughout the HFH global network (35%):

  • Manages and contributes to the development of HFH DR³ standard operating proceedures and program techincal guides in coordination with DR³ team
  • Directs and contributes to the development and supply of a variety of resource materials (blogs, papers, opinion pieces, tweets, etc.) in close collaboration with HFHI Communications and Advocacy teams
  • Contributes to DR³ monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning processes and metrics in close coordination with HFHI MEAL team
  • Serves as a Content Manager within the DR³ publishing group in support of HFHI's knowledge management portals in coordination with HFHI Learning team and IT

Advance the development of the global HFH DR³ sector leadership team and community of practice (10%):

  • Leads the DR³ Community of Practice through regular meetings and themes/agendas
  • Participates in and helps create opportunities for on-going interactions among DR³ subject matter experts throughout HFH's global network along with other DR³ staff
  • Engage and connect HFH to DR³ peer agencies and networks, authorities and the donor community (10%):
  • Manages and promotes (and engages when possible) HFH DR³ subject matter expert involvement in sector papers, articles, guidelines and other publications in coordination with HFHI Communications and Advocacy teams
  • Promotes (and engages when possible) active involvement of HFH DR³ subject matter experts with peers, think tanks, networks and donors
  • Ensures that HFH's DR³ web page is up to date and reflective of current projects, initiatives and practices in coordination with HFHI Communications team

Contribute to funding HFH's DR³ efforts (25%)

  • Supports HFH global network efforts to resource DR³ programs in collaboration with HFHI Resource Development team
  • Deploys virtually in the immediate wake of a disaster / emergency to faciliate the flow of information between the field and support offices involved in fundraising
  • Serves as grants subject matter expert within HFH's DR³ Department, leading the department's grant writing efforts in coordination with HFHI Resource Development team
  • Manages specific grants related to capacity building and ensures that all needed evaluations and project reports are carried out as stipulated in DR³ grant agreements managed by HFHI DR³ HQ team in coordination with HFHI Resource Development and MEAL teams
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree
Master's preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8-10 years related experience required
  • Disaster Risk Management experience required
  • Humanitarian shelter and settlements experience required
  • Knowledge of humanitarian standards required
  • Knowledge and experience in the arena of government grant development, management and reporting required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required
  • Strong research and analysis capacity required
  • Willingness to engage in on-going professional development in the arena of DR issues needed
  • Ability to generate fresh ideas sought
  • Capacity to integrate DR³ concepts into wider HFH programs
  • Write and edit technical papers / notes on DR³ issues essential
  • Needs to be a critical thinker; attentive to detail; a self-starter; have strong organizational skills; be flexible; able to work with minimal supervision; able to multi-task; have excellent customer service outlook
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, especially in the area of information management
  • Successful candidate will have strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity operations preferred; knowledge of other language other than English desired
