As part of FHI 360’s United States Programs, the Social Marketing and Communication department (SMC) has distinctive competence in science-based approaches to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, private associations, and foundations on health issues such as obesity prevention, diabetes, immunization, and injury prevention.
The Associate Director will serve as the senior manager for FHI 360’s Atlanta office, conduct business development outreach to CDC and other potential clients, and lead and support SMC projects, providing guidance on public health policy, program strategy, and program development/management. The Associate Director will serve as the Project Director on a communication contract with the Office of the Director for Policy (OADP) as well as the lead trainer/presenter for a communication training and technical assistance project with the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO) at CDC.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
- Serve as the senior manager for FHI 360’s Atlanta office, which has 10-12 employees
- Directly supervise 3-5 staff members
- Lead a communication support contract with the Office of the Director for Policy, assisting CDC with communication and outreach on various health policy initiatives
- Develop and deliver trainings/presentations to CDC awardees and partners in a variety of formats (webinar, in-person, remote) on communication, social marketing, social media, and other media topics.
- Develop training plans that address audience needs and are based on adult learning theories.
- Collaborate with team members to identify client and grantee needs and generate innovative ideas and approaches to address them.
- Provide planning and support to other projects as needed with a focus on communication, public health policy, program strategy, and program development/management.
- Conduct outreach to CDC, other clients, and potential partners as part of business development efforts.
- Lead 2-3 proposal efforts per year, providing overall direction, strategy, guidance and review.
- Provide strategic thinking and writing on SMC proposals.
Qualifications:
- Experience with supporting communication projects for US Government clients or health related non-profit organizations. Past experience working on communication projects for CDC and/or NIH a major plus.
- Experience managing staff.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health communication and/or social marketing principles.
- Demonstrated business development success.
- Demonstrated proposal writing experience.
- Strong program/project management skills, including financial oversight of projects.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively.
