The March of Dimes is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their National Headquarters in Arlington, VA. The Special Advisor will oversee and support the advancement of all Mission related projects and deliverables. As a critical member of the Mission Department, he/she will work collaboratively within the department and across all business areas to make sure all Mission projects meet their deliverables, are properly resourced, and all constituents are engaged and informed.
Areas of Responsibility:
- In collaboration, and under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, this role will work in concert with other managers to lead the efforts related to the Mission Department’s projects while ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.
- Provide support to the CMO with the following important deliverables: reports, tables, charts, and speeches/speaking notes for both internal and external audiences.
- Design, format, assemble and update quality PowerPoint and other presentation materials. Produce written reports for distribution and visual aids and other business communications.
- Maintain and manipulate data in excel worksheets, etc.
- Ensure the CMO has all briefing materials and background information for scheduled meetings and calls. Gather this information from other staff as needed, and organize it into one easy-to-use file.
- Direct and oversee large scale Mission projects with particular emphasis on resource planning, setting priorities, communicating timelines and deliverables, monitoring progress, and providing metrics and milestones achieved in accordance with the plan.
- Identify opportunities for the March of Dimes to advance its mission and initiate new project(s). When doing so, develop the strategy to secure support so the project(s) is approved and supported within the March of Dimes.
- Design work plan, including budget, staffing, timetable, quality control and/or evaluation. When appropriate, serve as project leader and implement the work plan. In some cases, serve as an adviser to the project leader to support the success of an initiative.
- Research and support the development work of public policies that affect the organization’s mission. Aide in the evaluation of these policies to ensure congruence with the Mission priorities and focus.
- Assist with the coordination of efforts and identification of opportunities to raise funds for mission-related program enhancements and expansion.
- Facilitate, to the extent needed, the department’s specific programs and projects, and special initiatives. Design and implement the work plan, including budget, staffing, timetable, quality control and evaluation. Supervise the staff who are assigned to work on these major projects.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s experience in the specialized area of public health, public policy, or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience:
- 5 to 7 years project management and proven and demonstrated track record handling a large scale portfolio of projects.
- Fully proficient in the full range of the Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project or related project management software. Advanced PowerPoint skills and intermediate/advanced Excel skills are required for this position
- Must possess sophisticated problem-solving skills and show strong initiative
- Ability to work under pressure and to handle multiple tasks gracefully
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
