OVERVIEW
The Development Officer for donor engagement position supports the growth and operations of the development department and is responsible for cultivating, promoting, and stewarding all individual giving, establishing corporate sponsorships, and additional tasks as needed. The position reports to the Director of Development. The ideal candidate will be flexible with strong interpersonal skills, open to taking on varied responsibilities, and a self-starter.
- Develops, recommends, and executes approved ongoing strategy for qualifying prospects in extensive donor discovery, retention and growth of donor contributions, and recapture from previous donors, based on high-quality research efforts, USCRI’s mission and goals, and national/global events and news;
- Engage individual donors and the business sector by making presentations and convening potential supporters under the direction of the Director;
- Craft mailings, web posts, and other literature to cultivate new donors and educate them about the various ways to contribute to USCRI.
- Manage gift processing, including management of gift acceptance, responding to donor inquiries, generating thank you letters, and managing appropriate online communications. Coordinate with Field Offices and Finance staff to ensure proper entry and tracking of gifts, and timely acknowledgement;
- Implement and track progress of approved individual giving campaigns, donor engagement activities and corporate sponsorships, including to maintain, update, and ensure the accuracy of donor records
- Write and submit funding proposals in collaboration with key internal partners including Finance, Field Office, and Program staff;
- Generate periodic fundraising/donor reports, including quarterly reports to the Board of Directors, annual work plans and monthly accomplishments; and
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
- Minimum of three to five years of demonstrated experience in individual giving, donor management, prospect research, and annual or major gift fundraising required;
- Excellent writing and editing skills, and experience working on donor solicitation emails, fundraising campaigns, reports, and other public communications;
- Highly effective communication skills, demonstrating strong partnership skills, emotional intelligence, and situational awareness;
- Comfort with direct donor interaction is essential, including discussions of personal and family finances and asking for major financial commitments;
- Refrain from taking solicitation rejection personally, receive critique without getting defensive, and exhibits an appropriate sense of humor;
- Self-starter with ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines;
- Excellent computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with development applications and software (e.g., DonorPefect, Stripe, GrantsHub) strongly preferred; and
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of USCRI and interest in growing in a nonprofit development department long-term.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;
- Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands; and
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
