The Corporate Engagement Associate supports The Nature Conservancy’s conservation goals by developing and leveraging strong partner relationships with the corporate sector.
The Corporate Engagement Associate works closely with representatives from corporations and with staff across The Nature Conservancy to manage the Conservancy’s Business Council, to coordinate strategic collaborations with the Conservancy and corporations, and to work with corporations on key policy initiatives. S/he may manage and execute aspects of larger corporate engagements. S/he manages multiple project activities and coordinates staff to meet objectives. S/he participates in fundraising activity to increase the level of financial support for TNC projects and priorities. S/he builds and facilitates internal networks, coordinates meetings, agendas, and presentations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Manages the Conservancy’s Business Council, including planning, scheduling and facilitating meetings and calls, recruiting new members, and invoicing.
- Provides support across the Conservancy’s program with the insurance industry, focusing on both the climate change mitigation and adaptation fields. Works closely with Conservancy leads with the insurance industry, in areas including strategy development, project management, stakeholder engagement, event preparation and management, and product development.
- May supervise administrative staff and/or volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.
- Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets.
- Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
- Serves as a team leader for assigned projects and coordinates the work of others.
- Ensures that the program complies with country lobbying laws and regulations.
- May need to gain cooperation from individuals or groups (inside and outside the Conservancy) over whom there is no direct authority in order to accomplish program goals.
- Fluency in English.
- Experience presenting to and/or communicating with business, government or legislative staff and/or program leadership.
- Experience in designing, implementing and directing multiple complex projects and ensuring program accountability.
- Communications experience including preparing and presenting project proposals and developing written communications.
- Experience working with corporate or NGO partners.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree appreciated.
- Insurance industry experience is not a requirement but would be a significant advantage, as would familiarity with trends and themes around the industry’s engagement in topics such as disaster risk management, public private partnerships, engagement with the public sector, climate change, micro insurance.
- Team player that can own and lead projects or specific areas of responsibility but is also comfortable in a small team environment and willing to do what’s required to get a job done.
- Experience coordinating projects in a decentralized, complex organization, working across teams, business units and functions operating in multiple countries to achieve optimal results.
- Strong project management skills
- Experience researching information from divergent sources and synthesizing it into a cohesive report. Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Proficient in Excel.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex processes and projects under varying timelines. Strong attention to detail.
- Experience planning videoconference and multi-day in-person meetings or events, building agendas, and coordinating speakers, logistics, and follow up.
- Experience writing and designing electronic newsletters.
- Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive on a small team in a decentralized global organization with minimal oversight.
- Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
