The Caribbean Philanthropy Specialist serves as finance and operations support for the Caribbean Philanthropy Team and is responsible for gift tracking and coding, fundraising reporting, and donor portfolio management. This position reports to the Director of Philanthropy for the Caribbean Division. Office location within the United States is flexible. This is a part-time (20 hours per week) short-term position,  with an expected end date of May 15, 2020.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Philanthropy Specialist supports Caribbean fundraising priorities by maintaining, tracking and reporting on key data related to regional donor cultivation and annual/Campaign fundraising goals. In tandem with finance and operations staff across Conservancy programs, s/he is responsible for processing and coding outright gifts, booking and tracking donor pledges, and managing planned gifts, online giving, in-kind gifts and other donated assets to the program. S/he stays apprised of Philanthropy Operations procedures across the organization and ensures audit compliance/accuracy and donor intent. S/he prepares monthly and quarterly fundraising status reports for the Philanthropy Team, divisional leadership, and the Caribbean Board of Trustees, including but not limited to reports on incoming funds, overall fundraising status, Campaign success, donor recognition and yearly cash impact.  S/he will support the Director of Philanthropy track stewardship reporting and help draft the frames for these reports. S/he will request financial updates for these reports if needed. S/he will support the team in organizing quarterly geography/priority lead calls. S/he will help the team advance messaging across the organization by working to ensure special updates are being sent for inclusion in the Development newsletter.  The Philanthropy Specialist accomplishes these tasks by using BlackBaud Constituent Relations Management system (BBCRM), The Nature Conservancy’s approved fundraising management software. This position has regular contact with Conservancy staff, donors, Trustees, vendors, public agencies, financial institutions and legal and accounting professionals. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Act independently on assigned tasks and exercise independent judgment based on analysis and experience.
  • Coordinate projects with several variables, work within a defined timeline and budget.
  • Does not supervise any staff.
  • Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
  • Financial responsibility includes working within a budget, processing invoices and transfers, and contracting with vendors. 
  • If required to provide centralized support to chapters or programs, will work with a minimum of three chapters or programs.
  • Provide input through project teams for the improvement of existing programs.
  • Refer difficult questions and unusual problems to supervisor.
  • Work flexible hours.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
  • Work within scope of program’s strategic goals.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience or equivalent combination.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience building relationships with staff, customers or similar. 
  • Experience generating reports and interpreting data.
  • Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Experience working across teams.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices of relevant field. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience are appreciated.
  • Ability to analyze information for the purpose of coordinating and planning activities, and solving problems.
  • Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and perform repetitive data entry tasks. 
  • Experience interpreting guidelines to achieve desired results.
  • Experience with databases and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the specific field.
  • Strong organization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
