The Associate Director, Digital Fundraising develops, creates and implements marketing strategies to grow short- and long-term membership revenue from donors and prospects, in alignment with overall goals for the Digital Fundraising program. Provides direction and leadership over digital fundraising initiatives.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Associate Director, Digital Fundraising develops and implements integrated, efficient and effective fundraising plans to recruit and retain donors via digital channels.  S/he manages one or more staff that manage key fundraising initiatives.  S/he works closely with marketing leaders and internal and external key stakeholders, including senior management and internal teams to ensure delivery of programs. Aligns staff efforts to match priorities set by senior management. Manages the budget and operational delivery of program or initiative goals and strategies. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Designs, directs and manages multiple complex and diverse programs or projects coordinating the work of other professionals, managing budget and ensuring program accountability. 
  • Identifies and implements new initiatives, channels, messaging streams, tools and processes to ensure growth of the digital fundraising program.
  • Selects vendors to help achieve annual goals; manage their performance.
  • Oversees regular testing of each point in the donation funnel, including email content/templates, landing pages, homepage promotions, and messaging streams to ensure optimal performance by recognizing and adjusting to trends in audience behaviors.
  • Broad management responsibility for administrative and professional staff that are responsible for key initiatives or programs.
  • Accountable for meeting strategic goals and objectives, including revenue and return on investment.
  • Financial responsibility includes developing and managing project and team budget objectives, evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed.  Provides input to departmental budget process.
  • Opportunity to act independently within broad program goals.  Work checked through consultation and agreement with stakeholders rather by directives of superiors.
  • Decisions can commit the organization’s resources in a way that affects public image and have program-wide impact.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 9 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience managing staff and teams. 
  • Experience developing marketing plans and measuring results.
  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships. 
  • Experience leading complex project and program/account management including financial responsibilities, and measuring results of strategic plans and programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in digital fundraising systems and strategies, including eCRMs, digital analytics and reporting, digital advertising, email, and marketing automation.  
  • Master’s degree or extensive professional experience using data to drive decisions leading to a diverse, scalable model for digital fundraising.
  • Experience delivering cross-channel fundraising campaigns that span online and offline touchpoints, including direct mail.
  • Management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, manage performance and help with conflict resolution on a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communications, and presentation skills; ability to persuasively convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy to diverse groups including donors, board members and the public.
  • Experience fostering an environment of creativity and professional growth. 
  • Experience developing, implementing, and measuring strategic marketing plans and programs. 
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and managing budgets. 
  • Excellent communications, mediation and negotiation skills. 
  • Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects. 
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline. 
  • Cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
