The Gift Planning Manager (GPM) leads a functional team within Gift Planning at The Nature Conservancy. The GPM will be responsible for providing resources such as research, gift processing, stewardship, special events, and other support within Gift Planning.
The Gift Planning Manager will work toward meeting the strategic priorities of the Gift Planning at the Conservancy by developing and coordinating tactics for approved plans and overseeing day-to-day tasks of the Gift Planning Support team. They are responsible for managing pipeline reports, the year-end life income and bequest call programs, and other projects as assigned. The GPM will report to leadership on fundraising activities and track progress against organization, department, and team fundraising goals to assure timely cultivation, solicitation, follow-up, and data entry of new and current Gift Planning prospects. They will manage guidelines and analyze factual information to achieve results, improve workflow, and solve problems. The GPM must be an expert in the systems and resources utilized by the team; applies knowledge to managing support and designing communications related to the resources. They will develop documentation, modify processes, and participate in the enhancement of systems and tools used by the team. They will keep up-to-date on market trends and best practices in order to improve services. The GPM works in close cooperation with any or all of the following: Conservancy staff, donors, Trustees, vendors, public agencies, financial institutions and legal and accounting professionals. They will provide advice, recommendations, and training related to the functional area of the team. They will manage diverse tasks, analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, project outcomes, and implement solutions in order to improve effectiveness.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Accountability for strategic goals of the Gift Planning Support team.
- Act independently and in supervisor’s stead as needed, exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
- Decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
- Develop and implement new initiatives that will ensure Gift Planning department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
- Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Financial responsibility includes assisting with the development of a budget, working within a budget, and negotiating and contracting with vendors.
- Manage and implement multiple projects, including managing budget, setting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
- May manage or participate in complex negotiations.
- Supervise one or more administrative or professional staff, responsibility includes training and professional development.
- Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience managing and implementing multiple projects.
- Experience negotiating agreements.
- Experience supervising staff, interns, and/or volunteers.
- Experience with current and evolving technology in relevant field.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices of relevant field.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
- Ability to manage and implement complex processes.
- Ability to work in partnership with others in a collaborative role.
- Advanced knowledge in current and evolving technology related to field of experience.
- Demonstrated ability to conceive and write creatively for various audiences.
- Knowledge of current and evolving trends in Gift Planning, preferably in a non-profit environment.
- Proficient in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data.
- Strong organization, planning, and problem solving skills.
- Successful experience implementing strategic program goals
