The Nature Conservancy’s GLOBE (Growing Leaders on Behalf of the Environment) summer internship program hires undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent college graduates (2016, 2017, and 2018) to fill paid internship positions during a 10-week summer internship. Our mission is to provide a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between academics and the real-world conservation work that contributes to the health and sustainability of our world. The GLOBE Program recruits individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences who are interested in contributing to our conservation goals in various fields. The GLOBE Program offers a structured orientation, professional training, network opportunities, mentoring program, and real work experience.
The Donor Engagement and Stewardship GLOBE intern will work with the Development team working in two areas:
Assisting with Donor Engagement:
- The intern will support fundraising efforts toward global strategies by creating important donor communication materials that include practical travel information, event information as well as programmatic information on our conservation work around the world. They will build the capacity of the Conservation Journeys program and Donor Engagement team by creating professional, informative materials using InDesign templates that are in alignment with the Campaign messaging and visual identity. Additionally, the intern will support TNC country programs by sharing and leveraging these materials for trips, events and donor communications outside of Conservation Journeys’ projects.
Assist with Donor Stewardship:
- The intern will work alongside donor communications, donor stewardship and program staff to pull together content for specific donor stewardship pieces. This may include photobooks, reports or content for donor microsites.
The intern will help our team manage an ever-increasing workload and advance our global fundraising initiatives. S/he will be able to take the lead on several projects described above and allow other team members to take on more of a project sponsor role.
After completing the internship, the Donor Engagement and Stewardship GLOBE intern will have a thorough understanding of a global non-profit and its organizational structure and will have applied principles of internal communications across a large enterprise. In addition, the intern will see the workings of a major and principal gift fundraising program from the perspective of three different teams within The Nature Conservancy’s Arlington, VA Development Division. Lastly, the intern will leave with a suite of materials that can be used as samples of their work during their time here which will showcase their design, writing and publishing skills.
