The Director of Strategic Initiatives, People & Nature Engagement will develop, execute and implement the Nature Conservancy’s urban people and nature organizational strategy.
This position reports directly to the Global Cities Managing Director and is a key member of the leadership team.
Essential Functions
The Director of Strategic Initiatives, People & Nature Engagement will act as the champion for TNC cities strategies and the intersection of people and nature. S/he will be responsible for building strong internal TNC partnerships in order to embed the Global Cities strategy globally across multiple programs and business units.
Responsibilities And Scope
Define and articulate an organizational vision, mission, outcomes and metrics for new programs. Including, but not limited to new concepts:
Connecting people & nature with health, green jobs and a continued emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Building on our two established pillars of Youth and Volunteer Engagement to integrate them more strongly into an overall approach supporting our urban conservation strategies.
- Work closely with the Executive Team, Conservation Management Team, Regional leaders, Division and State Directors to explore and determine demonstration projects and partnerships.
- Integrate Work with our organization wide cities programs as well as other relevant internal partners to include the Diversity Equity & Inclusion team, ERG’s, People Office, etc…
- Build strong external and internal partnerships focused on science, opinion leaders, other NGO and foundations.
- Build a social science program to demonstrate the power and value of nature for people and conservation.
- Conduct program specific research.
- Connect with the appropriate policy networks to ensure our work is adopted and scaled up by others.
- Collaborate with fundraising staff to fundraise for program for key projects and priorities and potentially play a leading role in donor identification and cultivation.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to create compelling marketing materials and stories.
- Management responsibility includes recruiting, retaining and managing effective multi-disciplinary staff with responsibility for performance management, training and career development.
- Leadership (direct and indirect) responsibility for 10+ staff members, both internal and external to the organization.
- Makes independent strategic decisions frequently based on analysis, ambiguous information, experience and judgment.
- May require frequent travel domestically and/or internationally and evening and weekend hours.
