Oversee social science research under the direction of the Sr. Director of Applied Research and Evaluation and the Senior Vice President of Science and Strategy, including management of the Center for Health Economics. Direct activities of the Center, including oversight of the March of Dimes Health Economics Advisory Council; collection and analysis of data related to health economics and other social science fields; management and administration of a grant program; the publication of the results of these analyses in the form of reports, white papers, articles, and testimony; the translation of this information so that it is understandable to a wide range of internal and external constituents including the general public.
- Administer and oversee a grant program to fund policy-relevant research into the relationships between economic policies, employer policies, birth outcomes, and productivity. Develop and issue requests for proposals; convene review committee; administer grants; and manage grantees from award notification through publication/dissemination of findings. Manage independent scientific projects and produce articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals, white papers and reports; prepare abstracts for submission to annual public health/data meetings on behalf of MOD; present data at meetings of national professional organizations; represent MOD externally on matters related to maternal and child health, particularly related to mission-relevant fields of social science including health economics and health policy issues; assist the Foundation leaders with editing articles and publications as needed. Manage the Health Economics Advisory Council. Convene meetings (at least one annually) of Council members, including developing agendas, securing speakers, and preparing members. Develop a Health Economics Research Agenda, to be used in issuing requests for proposals, prioritizing grants, and focusing work of the Center for Health Economics. Provide technical assistance to MOD staff in the National and Field Offices on matters relating to social sciences and health economics; respond to requests to the Center from the field, health professionals, and the public on economic-related issues; assist other departments (Marketing and Communications, Office of Advocacy and Government Affairs, and others) in preparing and writing press releases and speeches, public affairs data publications and policy statements.
- 5 to 7 years experience
- Doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant field is preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software programs
- Social sciences, including economic and health policy, epidemiologic or statistical analytic skills knowledge required
- Leadership, ability to manage multiple priorities, ability to represent the Foundation on scientific/epidemiological issues
