The Construction Supervisor (CS) oversees all aspects of Habitat’s construction and home preservation efforts. The CS prepares a projected schedule and budget for each build or repair project, coordinates material deliveries, and schedules necessary subcontractors as needed. Volunteers are a crucial part of Habitat’s success, and Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County engages approximately 1,000 volunteers each year. The CS is responsible for supervising all volunteers on job sites and providing them with a safe, productive, and rewarding experience. The CS is ultimately responsible for Habitat’s compliance with all local, state and federal codes and regulations related to construction and safety.
Construction Management
- Responsible for the overall site management of assigned construction projects, with the goal of completing projects on time, at or under budget and in line with the highest quality standards set by the affiliate. Several sites may be under construction simultaneously.
- Communicate timelines and volunteer needs to other staff to allow effective planning and communication for all Habitat activities surrounding the construction process.
- Create an estimated budget for each construction project
- Oversee the process of collecting bids, selecting subcontractors, and scheduling subcontractor work on all job sites as needed.
- Work with vendors to plan and purchase high-quality but cost effective materials.
Volunteer Management
- Oversee all volunteer activities on site, with goal of maintaining a safe, productive, and rewarding volunteer experience.
- Help build and maintain volunteer relationships with both groups and individuals.
- Work with homeowner partners to help them complete sweat-equity hours.
Safety
- Ensure safety of all Habitat jobsites.
- Maintain Competent Safety Person and OSHA Compliance and complete appropriate training.
- Arrange for the safety training of other staff and volunteers as needed.
Property
- Work with the property committee to forecast property needs for future home builds and maintain inventory
- Evaluate all potential property for feasibility for construction
Working Conditions and Schedule:
- This individual generally works 3-4 days per week on Habitat job sites, and works 1-2 days per week in the Habitat office.
- During active construction, the typical work week is Tuesday through Saturday. Hours may change with the seasons or weather.
- The CS may be asked to attend Habitat events, community events, and meetings either off site or after hours.
- This role involves frequent travel between job sites, the office, and suppliers.
- Exposure to weather, heavy lifting, loud noises, and various other working conditions associated with active construction sites.
- Advanced degree or certification in construction science or a related field is preferred.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in residential construction preferred.
- Experience as a job site leader or foreman a plus.
- Must be a skilled leader with the ability to delegate, plan, and oversee all aspects of a construction project from start to finish.
- Must be able to teach unskilled volunteers new tasks and exhibit patience and encouragement as they learn.
- Must have experience with all PPE related to construction work and the ability to identify and rectify any unsafe working conditions as necessary.
