Position Title: Agricultural Specialist/Coordinator
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Agricultural Specialist will lead a remote team of staff in Dar’a to deliver high quality agricultural programming in South Syria that improves economic outcomes for families and children. The Agricultural Specialist will be responsible for providing key technical support for World Vision Agriculture projects in affected communities in South Syria. The Agricultural Specialist will support the development of online consultancy services for farmers in South Syria and for project partner staff by providing technical advice on best-practice approaches in the area. The role will support the procurement of appropriate inputs, train beneficiaries, support the South Syria team in understanding the local context, develop tools and approaches for effective agriculture programming and report to project staff regularly on project achievements and challenges.
Major Responsibilities:
Support the Livelihoods Portfolio Manager in coordinating the project activities and supporting the technical capacity of staff
Deliver agricultural technical support services to the project target group (by skype, Whatsapp and other remote technologies) and project team to build the technical capacity of the livelihoods team
Provide quality control over the technical performance of project staff, and ensure the reporting of capacity gaps
Manage staff to ensure they deliver the project on time, on budget and to a high technical standard
Create agricultural guidelines that are in line with the context and share information through digital means
Attend and participate in project reviews and sector working group meetings as required
Perform other duties as required
Education:
University diploma related to agricultural engineering, agronomy or agri-business
Experience:
Two years’ experience in training or knowledge management
Knowledge & Skills:
Proven ability and experience in delivering online technical services
Demonstrated expertise in market assessment, market analysis, market research or closely related role
Five years’ experience delivering agricultural programming and managing staff to deliver agricultural projects
Experience in organizing trainings
Experience in translation and reporting
Fluency in English and Arabic languages
Advanced skills in information technologies
Facilitation and training skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to be flexible and adaptable, working in a high pressure, high risk environment
Knowledge of the context in Southern Syria is a plus
Experience in working with universities or training providers
