Mission: 

The KINDNESS Project exists to help families nourish their babies’ bodies and souls. Whether it is your first or fourth child, and no matter how you choose to feed them, KINDNESS provides compassionate, free, and evidence-based help with all aspects of infant feeding…tailored specifically to your child and your situation, whenever you need it.

We strive to develop a trusting relationship with the families we serve, and go beyond providing a health care service. KINDNESS is privileged to join families on their journeys through the first year of their babies’ lives; we become part of your team…and we aim to be the best infant feeding coaches you can find! You are raising the next generation in our village, and we all have a vested interest in helping your children get the best start possible!

Programs: 

KINDNESS offers free infant feeding classes, open to anyone in Kodiak, that cover all aspects of infant feeding and can provide an individual prenatal consult with one of our IBCLCs.

Awards & Accolades: 
In November 2019, a program report on KINDNESS was published in the journal Clinical Lactation. This was a huge accomplishment and the culmination of years of data analysis and background research by KINDNESS team members & supportive professionals.

Celebrating 20 years of operation, Kodiak KINDNESS (Kodiak Infant Nutrition and Development Support and Survey) was founded in 2006 as a program within Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center, incorporating as an independent nonprofit organization in 2021. KINDNESS’s mission is to help families nourish their babies’ bodies and souls. No matter how parents choose to feed their babies, KINDNESS provides compassionate, free, and evidence-based support with all aspects of infant feeding, tailored specifically to each family throughout the first year of a baby’s life. KINDNESS offers in-home consultation, infant feeding classes, a 24-hour warm call and text line, pumps and feeding aids, and professional weight checks, all free of charge to families. With a total of 6 paid staff: 4 peer counselors, 1 IBCLC, and 1 Program Services Coordinator/IBCLC, 14 volunteers, and 7 volunteer Board members, Kodiak KINDNESS operates with an average annual budget of $150,000.
