Camper Support Specialists will work directly under the Assistant Director, providing coaching and floating assistance to all counselors, but primarily for those who are caring for campers with the highest level of need.  The Camper Support Specialist will perform the duties of other camp staff as needed.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide teaching, coaching, and delegation of skills to counselors.
  • Regularly monitor the camper experience for all campers, thereby knowing which campers need the most care, and which counselors need the most support.
  • Communicate with Cabin Leaders to keep them apprised of particular concerns regarding camper’s experiences and care. 
  • Provide recommendations and concerns to the Assistant Director and Camp Director regarding the care and experience of campers with highest level of need.
  • Assist in training staff during staff orientation.

Daily duties include:

  • Meeting with Camp Director and other administrative staff.
  • Attending cabin meetings for cabins with focus on campers.
  • Communicating with Assistant Director, Camp Director, and Cabin Leaders to ensure campers are receiving excellent care and an excellent camp experience.
  • Maintaining radio communication and availability to staff.

Other duties:

  • Provide consultation and guidance in behavior management and personal care.
  • Provide administrative support to the Assistant Director and Camp Director as necessary.
  • Perform any camp related duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience working with children and adults with disabilities in a camp setting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Mature and professional demeanor.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
  • Must have current CPR card by the time camp starts.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of position including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, squatting, twisting, reaching overhead, walking on wet surfaces, long hours standing, and working in extreme temperatures.
  • Physical strength to lift adult campers with the assistance of another staff member.
  • Physical strength to push adult campers in wheelchairs up and down hills safely.
