The President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) leads the operation of the United Way of the Greater Capital Region (UWGCR) and is responsible for the organization’s mission of ‘advancing the common good’. Working with the Board of Directors, the CEO develops strategic goals for UWGCR and leads the organization toward its mission by creating innovative community partnerships, programs and revenue sources.
The CEO manages an organization with a budget of $3.4 million. The CEO also manages all operations and activities, including direction of staff to ensure fiscal and operational management. The scope of this position requires the CEO to maintain significant relationships with persons at all levels of the public, private and nonprofit sectors. This includes corporate executives, government leaders, labor representatives, planning organizations, agencies and representatives of other United Way organizations (both local and national).
- Work with the Board in the strategic planning process and monitor the organization’s progress against the strategic plan
- Provide vision and insight to the Board for fulfilling the mission of the organization, using input from multiple sources, including external and internal constituentsAdvance the image of the organization by serving as the chief representative to all stakeholders, including the Board, staff, nonprofits, donors, the media, government, and the public
- Provide leadership in response to local, state or national disasters/crisis situations
- Identify and develop new sources for partnerships and revenue generation
- Ensure Board members are kept informed of developments that warrant their attention and best practices on organizational management and leadership
- Identify issues and policies that require the action of the BoardEstablish a culture to ensure that the organization attracts and retains the talent necessary to successfully carry out its programs and missionCreate an atmosphere that develops strong, effective teams and empowers staff through involvement and collaborative decision making
- Ensure that the organization operates within the financial parameters set by the Board with an emphasis on maintaining balance with available resources
- Support an organizational culture of integrity, transparency and service

Qualifications Required for this Position:
The CEO will have experience in the management of organizations of comparable size and mission.The individual will possess expertise on relevant issues to make informed decisions and command the respect of stakeholders to serve as the leader of the organization.
- 10 years executive level leadership/management experience of a complex nonprofit organization or with considerable interaction with the nonprofit sector.
- Proven ability to lead a motivated, experienced senior leadership team
- Strong planning, interpersonal and communications skills
