United Way of South Hampton Roads raises more than $14 million a year to help people today and to strengthen our communities for tomorrow. The Volunteer Engagement Manager is responsible for the management and strategic direction of all volunteer engagement. This position works closely with internal teams to mobilize both corporate partners and individuals to increase participation through various types of meaningful year round volunteer opportunities, demonstrating a shared purpose in the caring power of community and deepening connections with UWSHR.
Core Job Responsibilities & Skills:
- Engages, recruits and manages relationships with community volunteers to ensure events execution and drive increased participation based on ROI (Chairman, Key & Major Donors).
- Develop and manage group/corporate volunteer engagement strategies including research of best practices, program planning and implementation, partner collaboration and the development of new types of corporate and donor partnerships.
- Create and track data collected.
- Develop overall organization engagement plan to ensure year-round volunteerism, maintaining and growing relationships with other volunteer resources in Hampton Roads to create collaborations around specific projects and promoting volunteerism.
- Coordinate and engage volunteers for other United Way focused initiatives and special projects.

Volunteer Recognition: Corporate & Individual; National Volunteer Week; Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service
- Create annual volunteering and engagement calendars outlining anticipated engagement points based on the partner’s corporate social responsibility goals.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in planning and implementing volunteer engagement opportunities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and CRM experience preferred.
- Analytical and creative problem solving skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Prioritize work and successfully handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to work cross functionally as part of a team to accomplish individual and mutually defined goals.
- This full time, exempt, benefitted position reports to the Chief Development Officer.
