ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: Harm Reduction Coalition is a national advocacy and capacity-building organization that works to promote the health and dignity of individuals and communities who are affected by drug use. With offices in New York and California, we advance harm reduction policy and practice through five core programs: 1) harm reduction policy and advocacy; 2) national training and capacity building initiatives; 3) national and regional conferences; 4) publications and resources, and; 5) technical assistance on overdose prevention education, hepatitis C prevention and treatment, syringe access expansion, and the US opioid crisis.
JOB SUMMARY: The Community Engagement & Events Coordinator supports the organization in promoting harm reduction through events, training, capacity building, and our national conference. This position primarily provides logistical support to create and maintain engagement systems to build and expand the reach of our programs. This position is responsible for coordinating the logistics of our national conference from start to finish in addition to programmatic, communications, and operations functions for programs at our Oakland office.
Conference and Event Promotion
- Provide support to the National Conference Director to plan, organize, and execute the biennial national conference
- Assist with promotion, recruitment, and registration of the national conference, including engagement with previous attendees and vendors in addition to identifying prospective individuals and vendors
- Assist with the conference program logistics including, but not limited to: abstract review, speakers, scholarships, consultants, and vendor relations
- Coordinate all conference promotional materials, including the production, inventory, and distribution before, during, and after the conference
- Assist the National Conference Director in planning activities, including in-person and online meetings, community events, and other forms of conference promotion
- Lead online promotion through multiple platforms including social media, customer relationship management (CRM) system, and the conference phone app and website ensuring consistency with organizational messaging
- Coordinate post-conference activities including reviewing evaluations, reports, closeout activities with special attention to lessons learned and suggestions for the next conference, including leading and compiling feedback from staff across the organization
- Support the National Conference Director in activities to identify and secure logistics for the next conference
- Other conference planning and execution duties as assigned
Programs & Community Engagement
- Co-develop and maintain organized systems for managing contacts that are connected to the organization through the conference, events, training sessions, technical assistance, and other community forums with special attention to interests and geographic area; master customer relations management (CRM) systems
- Provide logistical support for training sessions, community events, site visits, and both onsite and offsite meetings between multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to: promotion, attendee management, meeting space, vendors, documentation of meeting minutes, and follow up
- Support with external communications, including production and maintenance of training and educational materials, promotional materials, and ability to promote events/materials via social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr) and communications systems (i.e., Salesforce, MailChimp)
- Conduct community mapping of community organizations, stakeholders, and vendors to identify prospective partners for training and capacity building services
- Support logistics related to online training, including attendee registration, promotion of trainings, technical logistics, and follow up activities (i.e., evaluation, reminders, new training opportunities)
- Other programmatic duties as assigned
Office Support
- Provide administrative and operations support for the Oakland office, including ordering and maintenance of supply inventory, administrative documents, office space, and vendor relations
- Other administrative duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
People who currently use or have a history of substance use, sex workers, people of color, women, members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, and people living with HIV/AIDS and/or hepatitis C, or people who have experienced housing insecurity are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a new position with the organization and we are seeking an energetic, creative, self-motivated individual who can manage multiple roles with extremely strong organization skills.
- Commitment to the mission of Harm Reduction Coalition; direct experience a plus
- Superior organization skills with strong attention to detail with the ability to managing multiple projects at the same time; must be self-motivated and be able to work both independently and as part of multiple teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience executing social media campaigns and event promotion (including Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter)
- Expert knowledge of MS Office Suite and Google products; experience with Salesforce or other CRM tools a plus
- Background in event planning and support strongly preferred
- Interest or experience in visual media, graphic design, and presentation a plus
Salary Range: $45,000-55,000 annual

Status: Full-time, exempt
Travel: Position requires moderate travel (approximately 14 days per year).
