Since 1994, we have implemented social marketing and social franchising programs with behavior change communication to deliver prevention and treatment products and services across a wide range of health areas including Family Planning and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, malaria and child survival, and water-borne diseases.  PSI seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Technical Advisor – Reproductive Health. The candidate will provide effective technical leadership and day-to-day management of PSI Malawi’s Reproductive Health Department to achieve health impact. The position will lead the strategic positioning of PSI Malawi as the lead SRHR implementing organization by developing high impact SRHR programmers. The candidate will also be actively involved in fund raising activities to ensure adequate funding for all SRHR projects being implemented. This full-time position is based in Lilongwe, Malawi and reports to the Senior Technical Advisor for Programs. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

You’ll be responsible for providing strategic leadership for the RH Department, implementing and updating the over-arching strategy and action plan, ensuring relevance of PSI Malawi in this program area, mobilizing resources to support additional RH programming, supporting the expansion of RH services through social franchise, and scaling up the provision of family planning and related sexual and RH interventions in Malawi. 

You will be responsible to:

  • Provide leadership, management oversight and technical direction to the RH team
  • Ensure recruitment and performance management of all RH team members
  • Collaboratively create and implement a strategic long-term vision for the department
  • Provide programmatic and technical support for quality RH service delivery through social franchise and other providers
  • Collaborate with communication’s team on program performance, demand creation, provider behavior change communications
  • Oversee monitoring and evaluation of all RH programs and ensure timely and accurate financial and program donor reports
  • Represent PSI Malawi in interactions with donors, government, NGO and private sector partners
  • Ensure compliance with all PSI, USAID and Government of Malawi quality assurance requirements, including annual quality assurance audits and immediate adverse event reporting
  • Oversee budget management for all RH projects and ensure compliance with grant management regulations
  • Provide oversight for project work planning and budgeting for the RH Department
  • Identify and pursue additional complementary funding to ensure sustainability of reproductive health program activities
  • Implement organizational policies, procedures and systems
  • Contribute to the leadership of PSI Malawi by actively participating in the Senior Leadership Team and consistently demonstrating PSI Malawi values
  • Undertake any other task that may be requested by the Country Representative, Deputy Country Representative or Director of Programs, as necessary
Educational Background: 
You have a master’s degree in relevant field (MPH, MSC, MBA, MSW,) or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • You have demonstrated technical experience in designing and managing complex projects with different donors
  • You have at least 6 years of work experience of managing a team in a developing country and project oversight experience.
  • You have demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets as well as International donor compliance (USAID, KfW, Global Fund, DFID, etc).
  • You have ability to work effectively in partnership with a variety of audiences and organizations.
  • You are fluent in spoken and written English.
  • You have experience  living and working in developing countries.
  • You have excellent writing, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
