Advanced Practice Clinician Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

Planned Parenthood of Nassau County is seeking a full time physician assistant or nurse practitioner to work in collaboration with a physician to assess the gynecological and family planning needs of patients. Order, interpret, and record results of clinical tests and report results to physician. Prescribe medications and make recommendations for other forms of treatment, including birth control. Requires a master's degree and national certification as a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) in specialty area based on RN licensure and state authority for advanced practice. Familiar with advanced concepts, practices and procedures within chosen field of expertise. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Secure a complete health history, including obstetric, gynecologic, contraceptive, medical, surgical, sexual, family health, and psychosocial; and record findings accurately and succinctly. 
  • Perform physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproductive system, including breast examinations, pelvic examination, cancer screening tests, diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and other types of more specialized procedures as may be indicated by medical policy. 
  • After observation and approval, provide direct medical care to patients for all core services, including but not limited to prenatal, family planning and  medication abortion.  Participate in accomplishing customer-focused goals. 
  • Provide referrals and assure follow-up.  Perform, order and interpret diagnostic studies as indicated and permitted by affiliate medical protocols. 
  • Consult with Medical Director and Director of Clinical Services to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines.  Provide relevant health instruction to include family planning, nutrition, sexual counseling, and principles of health promotion and maintenance.
Skills/Experience: 

Current NYS license as an NP with national certification preferred.  New graduates are welcome. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse staff and clients. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays.
