Chicago, IL, United States
Full-time

Habitat for Humanity Chicago (Habitat Chicago) partners with families and neighborhoods to build homeownership and revitalize communities. Habitat Chicago serves the city of Chicago and Cook County and currently works primarily on the Southside of Chicago. We are seeking an energetic leader to lead our development efforts as we grow Habitat Chicago’s impact.

Come join our growing team in support of a life-changing mission if you: believe in both the big and the little picture; would answer, “organized,” as one of your top three strengths; thrive when handling multiple projects; would take pride in supporting our mission through fundraising; and if you love Chicago and want to see all of its residents thrive.

Position Summary: Development Director is responsible for creating and overseeing a comprehensive development program, securing major gifts from new and existing individual donors, cultivating existing and potential board members, event planning and oversight, and managing the development staff. While the Director’s individual focus will be on activating the Board, growing major gifts, and managing the Executive Director’s fundraising strategies, the development director will also oversee the development staff’s efforts to grow revenue in all development functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising (60%): Achieve annual fundraising goals ($2.3 million in FY 2018) and maintain ultimate responsibility for year-over-year increases in all contributed revenue-generating activities, including gifts through individual solicitation, foundation and corporate relations, and annual fund tactics.
  • Marketing (20%): Drive Habitat Chicago's marketing efforts, ensuring consistent, clear, and current branding and messaging across all platforms.
  • Management & Communication (10%): Hire, manage and mentor development staff, prioritizing work and offering direction and support that ensures both effective results and engaged employees.
  • Planning & Measurement (10%): Direct and evaluate the effectiveness of all fundraising programs, utilizing established metrics and reporting tools.
  • Teamwork: Help grow the affiliate through collaboration, leadership and vision.

Key Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be a goal-oriented personality who is resilient and creative when faced with shifting challenges and opportunities.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, or similar work required.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership position. S/he will be motivated by Habitat’s mission and love making those around her/him successful.

Compensation: Salaried position ranging from $92,000-96,000, depending on experience. 30+ vacation/sick/personal days per year. 90% employer paid health insurance; access to dental, vision and 401k plans.

To Apply: Please submit compelling cover letter and resume to [email protected] with “Development Director – Your Name” in the subject line by 12/15/17. Successful applicants will be contacted for interviews.
